Put a large extension on farmhouse for the in laws to move into and in doing so have ended up doing loads of major repairs to our house (250 year old been bodged and bodged by previous owners)new roof/ceilings etc and renewing all electrics and plumbing, also having underfloor heating fitted if thats makes a difference?
Been on oil for the 6 years we've had it but plumber is suggesting look at lpg as new boiler will be smaller and cheaper, obviously need a tank etc, whats everyones thoughts?
Thanks in advance

With both oil and gas here in let properties and in the past, for ourselves, I would say oil. At least it is easy to chop suppliers and get best prices, but choose LPG, and you are locked in, unless you have your own tank.

Not insulated well enough for a GSHP I suppose??

If in-laws are moving in, are they young enough to feed and run a wood boiler?? And still in 5-10 years time. Push button has major benefits. I was going to put in a big boiler here in 2010 and asked myself, do I want to collect fuel and load it 3-4 times a week when I am 60? I said no, and it was the best decision I made, now at 65 ;)

to be honest thats what i thought (not locked in)but then i suppose with lpg no filters etc to worry about?
pro's and con's,I think wood would be a no go,have a full time job aswell so takes long enough to chop and split for the log burner :ROFLMAO:

Lets be honest, an LPG boiler and oil combi cost much the same for service and safety check, gas maybe 20 quid less/annum here.

Capital cost on oil installation is higher, but enough to be a concern??

can't go down the combi route as place to big and water pressure and flow rubbish (even after upgrading 400m pipe to 50mm and the meter) so will be pressure vessel and normal boiler,
will get him to price for both but as never had gas didn't know the deal with the tank etc and legalities for position etc?

If water pressure is pants, put a pump in to feed the taps/shower in the bathrooms etc.

Put this in our cellar 2 years ago.
It’s running a 3storey 7 bedroom farm house with 5 bathrooms and water underfloor on 60% of the ground floor.
It actually uses less fuel than the old gravity boiler, which didn’t heat the top floor at all, and had 3 less bathrooms
Runs on mains pressure

Do not, under any circumstances go with LPG.
You will regret every day you don’t use oil.
Lpg is a total pain in the arse, it’s expensive, sellers are limited etc etc
Complete rot, price is fixed every time you renew contract ,unlike oil suppliers who will regularly raise prices at a drop of a hat ,i filled up a tank in september with gas at 36.7 p a litre ,oil was over a quid

are those pressure vessels?
The plumber is advising 1 vessel for 3 bathrooms and 3 en suites?
7 bedrooms but only over 2 storeys
