Not in the past they didn't....simply didn't bother turning up to remove them but contract stated they could only hold their gas...

Just had gas bill of £900 for 1,198ltrs of gas in an above ground bulk tank - is this a good price? I have estimated it to be about 70p a litre but not sure

When we came here in 2004 we inherited a massive oil burner which probably came out of Titanic. At least the rads were nice big cast ones.
I had removed the 1954 AGA from my mother’s old house and had it totally renovated & delivered here. As we were totally renovating this house I elected for LPG with a buried one tonne tank to run the AGA and boiler. I chose a Viessmann condensing boiler, which has an external temperature sensor. If the boiler is turned on with no timer settings it runs warm (not hot) water through the rads once the outside temperature gets down to 3C. That coupled with the AGA in the kitchen and a big wood burner in the sitting room is enough to keep a 3 story 4 bedroom house warm. If it gets really cold I can programme the boiler to run at full heat, but I haven’t needed to do that for the last few winters. When the AGA is off during the hot summer months we have an electric element in the hot water cylinder which runs on off peak electricity.
We use about 2.5 tonnes of gas per year plus about 8 cords of wood.
By contrast we bought a new rental in England when we came here which had a Worcester gas boiler for heating and DHW. That was troublesome from day one and in the end it had to be scrapped last year. Needless to say I bought another Viessmann!

I'd imagine if you want an easy life put in oil.

Tank plonked in the corner of the garden, instead of some retards digging up pipes, drains, anything that may be in your garden to put some gas tank in. Easier to plug leaks and obviously a lot less explosive than gas as well.

Boiler will be easier maintained as well, my dad tinkers away with our 50 year old British Gas oil burner that works fine despite being condemned by the 'engineers' that couldnt tell their arse from their elbow and are only there to sell new (and poorer made) machines.

Just renewing our LPG contract here, always go through an agent they will save you money, and always make sure its a 2yr fixed contract. If you go direct with any gas company they will try to fob you off with all sorts of ways out of the second yr fix.Can get 48p here from Flogas (but not direct) 2yr fix. That works out at 70p/l Kero equivalent, cant see it averaging much less than that TBH.Interestingly that is marginally less than mains gas at the moment.

Due to a tenancy change I’ve had to sort out a house on mains gas.never seen a mains gas bill before but was surprised today when I did.

Octopus put us on their informal tariff till we renew - 7.8p /kWh.

I thought gas was cheap?? That’s the same price as oil. How many kWh in a litre of LPG then?

Just over 7kwh/l of lpg.Surprisingly cheaper than mains if you can get a decent contract,we’ve been on 38p for the last 2 years so 5p/kwh.
