Rolled 80ac of wheat today, would have liked to leave it another few days dry but forecast is rain for a week now and then by the time it drys it will want a spray probably and end up being too late to roll. Had to roll for stones as we have a lot and header runs on the floor. Do a lot of people not bother roll? Do you not have stones or just keep the header up a bit? Bits you can see are maize stalks

I missed rolling autumn cropped drilled 2022. Was hoping to roll the following spring, but was too wet.
Ipso facto 3 of us went stone picking over 80acres of the stonier fields - link box down the tramelines and 1 person out each side. The positive was that gateway hole were sorted.

So last autumn, the roller was tight behind the drill. Plenty of wheelings in wheat

I'm glad I didn't, can even see the quad wheelings still from slug pellets! Luckily didn't roll anything so its 90% come good.

Winter wheat rolled a day after drilling works well on my soils. If it’s too damp leave it. This spring the soil is too moist so none rolled yet. There will hopefully be a chance once it’s established. The downside to rolling wet soil now will be seen as concrete in the autumn if it bakes out in the summer.. When I don’t roll the combine knife ends up requiring sections and the stones take the sharp edge off most others. Running the header higher doesn’t work when barley brackles over. Wheat not such an issue with stiff variety.

Unless you have stones; I really can’t see the point of rolling 🤷‍♂️ it’s still going to tiller without rolling; you’re still going to put pgr on even if you roll and apart from making pretty stripes….it strikes me as being fairly recreational

If you have flints and manganese it’s anything but recreational
Check out the first 4 words of my post. The manganese is an interesting point tho…we do have deficient land but again; you’re not ‘not’ going to put manganese on irrespective of rolling are you?? 🤷‍♂️
