OSR drilling today, Tractor is well on top of the job, 12kph, could pull faster but what's the point with a spot rate of near 30ac /hr !

10kgs/ha of farm saved seed (approx 200plants) VRA

100kgs /ha DAP VRA

Calcifert prilled lime VRA

Had a play with the drone , phone and a go pro with @Chris F this morning and made a film !

Now, I think the film is superb, the drill magnificent, the operator exemplary, the drone operator unsurpassed but the CTF is woeful ! Also a bit disappointed that I haven’t ordered a dd for this autumn.

That looks such a simple drill , looks good.

Straw was removed - straw men and CFT are not words to use in the same sentence ! our wheelings are all 12m CTF however !

no pre harvest glyphosate and that was cut early August (been waiting for straw to go)

will get glyphosate now though

we are double rolling OSR this year yes, I think it helps re slugs and CSFB but I might be wasting my time !

Tell me about it, and I’m not even CTF! Straw removed to ease drilling and avoid hairpining or another reason. Sold lots of straw last year and made good money doing so, only sold winter barley straw this year, plan on nothing next year.

sold because it was good money again, will be coming back as muck / compost and straw.

pre OSR straw is not a good thing with a disc drill IMO (slugs and hair pinning )

It is a shame re the CTF though as you say but at least ground conditions were good when they were driving about it, I had a dig and don't think much damage has been done

Surprised no one has picked up on the Calcifert placement ? We are doing some trial work of different rates of placement under OSR, I think it could work very well based on past trials with the 750a and prilled lime under OSR

haha - hadn't even noticed the "weeds"
over here, we would have just run a spray rig maybe a day or two in front ? Or in such a low disturbance scenario as that, we'd be quite happy to wait & run the spray rig a few days behind the planter ( assuming weather forecasts were ok, but no chance of rain here anyway at the moment )

a question in return
why would you even consider rolling behind that planter ?
what would it achieve ?
its already getting excellent row closure & seed / soil contact . . .

Clive, when you look back at the journey you have taken with your cropping program you must be amazed at how things have changed.

I just wish some of my guys wouldn’t stuff their winter feed crops so we could direct drill more!!

This from a guy that just bought a Vaderstad opus ??

Spray glyphosate a day or 2 later is the thing to do - but the pendants on here will tell you glyphosate label says pre drilling ......... so we do it the day befure of course  (Rather that rely on a very early pre harvest application ;-) )

Rolling osr in the uk is about slugs - it seems to help a lot even when ground is already in good shape but may well be a waste of time I agree

It’s certainly changed a fair bit over the years but zerotill isn’t a massive step from min-till biggest difference being the size of the tractors and the spring and cover crops

My deep cultivation mistake after spreading biosolids this year has reminded me how much work cultivation is and how pointless it is - I’m glad I messed up and did it if for no other reason than to remind me of that !

I would be looking further afield if I was you. Hungary, Poland, Germany and Czech would be where I’d start searching. There were 2 on Agriaffares a few months ago.
