Been to JLR Halewood, Merseyside today to see the vehicle in the metal. No production model to show even at this stage. None to be produced for sale for a good while yet, possibly none this year.
Only 240hp diesels available until late next year and deliveries of those to UK customers only starting sometime between late March and late April next year. Might as well call it April/May.
No commercial version until probably mid-2021.
Was told by LR staff member that the diesels were all mild hybrid, but I've seen no mention of that being the case in their literature. He was probably mistaken, at least for the time being. Either that or the people who have printed the specs on the vehicles have left it out. As far as I could tell the engine is exactly as fitted to the Discovery 5, so I can't fathom why they claim such massive development time and testing when the D5 has been in production for over two years already .
What I do like about the four cylinder Ingenium engine is the air-to-water intercooler that won't get clogged up with filth or damaged, being nicely positioned behind the rad at its bottom left.
It is really quite a nice vehicle, but it is more a tough car than a work truck. The technology and high specification incorporated means that it is a competitor to the top Land Cruiser trims [its in a different league], the Mercedes G Wagon and GLS, possibly the GLE, Volvo XC90, BMW X5, but also the Discovery 5 and Range Rover Sport.
It has standard air suspension on 110 models, plus a two speed transfer box, standard automatic, LED lights and 3.5 ton towing plus a ridiculous wading depth that would have it float away if any deeper, plus superior rough terrain [as opposed to rough road] It is theoretically the superior product to all the others, even the Discovery 5.
