New sprayer

Anyone with a new or newish Amazone UX 4200 special sprayer ? And happy ? I have a 5 year old househam 24 mtr 4,000 ltr with a lot of spec. Doesn’t seem to be popular compared to other makes as a trade in ! Any opinions welcome... should one hold long term as it’s in perfect order or does it come to a time that you make a decision to move before you’re stuck with a machine !!
Thanks in advance...

I don’t have a UX 4200 but I have a UX 3200 Special that I bought new in 2016.
It’s done 32,000 acres of spraying and liquid N since then and I honestly can’t fault it. It’s an amazingly reliable machine and built well.

it’s so good that I’ve just ordered a brand new one for May delivery. I’m quite hard to please, so take that as a good review!!

Good luck, and feel free to be in touch.

Were you @ flintstone tempted to buy the 520 ltr hydraulically driven ux 32001 or 42001 ? Best of luck! You’re spraying at least 3 times the acres I am so it’s an expensive purchase for me and one I may not be able to justify yet !

Hi
I’m a bit of a purist. If it works, don’t change it.
My PTO driven 3200 UX has done me really well. All these upgrades cost money, and as long as I can do 400 acres in a good long day, I’m happy.

Fair enough @ flinstone ... can’t argue with that opinion... I think I might hold onto to what I have as the price been quoted would make you weep !! I’m only spraying 2000 acres a year ...

If it’s not worth a lot now and not giving trouble, I would keep it, its not going to depriciate much from now on,especially if your not doing big acres

It's great cheap spraying until you get a major component failure that costs you a week in peak spraying time. It's then that you'll appreciate the backup by the manufacturer or your chosen independent mechanic.

I'd consider a slightly larger tank on a trailed to match the daily output of a self propelled, mostly due to slower speeds and manoeuvrability in awkward fields, around poles etc. The local big acres contract farmer has a 6000 litre trailed sprayer doing the same daily work as his 5000 litre self propelled Horsch Leeb.

CAAV costings. The above assumes 10 year ownership from new to scrap, but the figures are pretty good - I've spent years working out my own machinery costs & they aren't far from these unless that bit of kit was spectacularly well bought or on the opposing side, mismatched to what is pulling it or grossly underworked or traded in early.

We moved to a trailed and keep ontop of current valuations with a friendly dealer and in 4 years of a trailed which we bought as a used machine we have only lost £5000 in depreciation. Its cost £1500 in spares which is mainly nozzle bodies etc and some main pipes. The pump was redone before we bought it so really its good to go for many years yet. We don't miss the SP we sold as that itself had hit 6000 hours and was starting to show signs of issues. Wheel motors were £4k each, the engine was showing signs of blow back so it was time to move it on. We have halved our spraying cost per acre.

How much annual depreciation cost per acre sprayed do people think is sensible? I am am always trying to push that figure up to justify a better sprayer!

The sprayer itself (trailed) so far has costed us 30p/acre in depreciation and 8p/acre in repairs. But as said above we bought it used so a massive chunk of depreciation had already gone. Obviously we have the tractor cost ontop of that which if we are being honest with ourselves should be costed at £40/hour so we are spraying for around £2/acre presently. Obviously a big repair will dent that significantly but thats the chance you take buying used.

At 5years old on low hours you would hope you wouldn’t have a major component fail
I’ve a 17year old sp and spray 2500acres total a year and know of a lot of oldish machines doing big acres

I've no experience with the Amazone but we've just had a Vicon ixtrack t4 4600l delivered a few weeks ago and it is a joy to use.

Mmm... I am only spraying maybe 1200 acres per year, is hard to own any sprayer for less than £1000 depreciation p.a. I have found.
Over last 8 years I am around £1 per acre depreciation and 20p in repairs.
Been a bit lucky with when breakdowns have occurred

I got a new ex demo last year. 3200 ux special had a 3000 ug before that. Went for the special as the dual pump wasn’t really needed. I now switch the Ventura on when I’ve finished putting chemical in full in no time. I have gps and individual nozzles wouldn’t be with out it now. Steering axle. By the way I normally fill it with 3500. I don’t know why you don’t see more Amazone sprayers around.

There are a few Amazones around here as we have a good dealer on the doorstep. They look tidy machines but were pricey when I looked at one before buying a Chafer a couple of years ago.

Do the extra boom hinges give much trouble as they wear? I see they use tapered bushes which is a good idea to reduce slop as they wear out. I hate seeing boom yaw, especially noticeable on wider booms (36m)

I don't think @Charlie Flindt got on very well with his amazones but he perhaps had earlier models?
Really interesting to see the various replies and how each farm can look at it differently! Mine is 5 years old now and paid for ! It’s immaculate and tested in 2019 , so good to go for another few years at least.. but shiney metal can gleam until you’re hit with a price of 45k to change to new Amazone ux 4200 special !!! Too many second hands around so I can’t bring myself to get caught up in the madness!!!... cheers
