New tractor not registered to me?

It's feeling a bit like that...not sure what I can do, just getting more nonsense back from him.

The only thing I can think of is there was an admin charge and line item on the invoice for road registration. I guess it's reasonable to assume it should have been in my name without having to say, and that it can't have been pre-registered.

Tell him a second hand tractor is £7k less, and to post you a cheque.. or a replacement NEW tractor.

There's a scam I think, the dealer has got a big discount putting the tractor on his demo fleet, but sold it to you as new. Ask for a better price as your now the second owner and tractor is not new on paper but ex demo. Main dealers used to get extra 20% + on tractors put as demo tractors,

So it's a 'pre reg', big deal.
If it means part of the discount has already been passed to GHO then all well and good, and I'd expect the dealer to make money on it too.
He did the deal and deal stands as it is. There's a name for people who try to negotiate better terms after shaking hands, and the forum swear filter won't allow it.
It's not been hired, it's not been a demo tractor, it is for all intents and purposes 'new'. I cant see why he should return it and ask for a 'new' one, thats ridiculous, it's certainly not worth losing any good will with the dealer over. You'll only burn that bridge once.
The only issue might be the warranty length as mentioned above, that would be worth investigating.

Hi, I recently bought a new tractor (a first for me) from a dealer. They have sent me the V5 but it is not in my name, but theirs - registration date on the day I purchased it.

The dealer tells me this is normal for tractors and all I have to do is fill in the change of ownership details on the form.

Is this normal?

Thanks!
What make is it ?

Is this tractor a big brand models , NH , Massey , Fendt etc or a Chinese , Indian or Turkish ETC import ?

If the former I would doubt the story you are being told as all the vehicles would be type approved and the dealer could well get a demo tractor discount., but he would need a cover note from yourselves stating the chassis no of the tractor or more likley the reg no of the tractor as they would usually be able to allocate a reg no prior to the paperwork being submitted just as you would with a car.

if its the latter the story you are being told is probably correct as there is unlikely to be any demo discount the dealer and the vehicle probably has to be taxed in a different manner as it likely does not have full UK type approval on import to the UK so the way they are doing it will allow them to tax it a that would be a paper based process as opposed to an online one and DVLA would issue the reg no when the paperwork was processed

I would say you would be the second owner on the V5 logbook. Dealer should of asked you to send insurance cover note to to them and got it sent it to DVLA. Some tractor manufactures pay there dealer big bonus to sell in there official area, hence why it’s probley first reg in the supply dealer name. it is a big big part of the dealers kick back and dealer standards to sell in the official area. One of my previous employers did this all the time, however the office lady always checked with the customer first to see if he/she minded before sending off to the DVLA

I think the major problem here is the buyer was not told the tractor is a prereg tractor, and should reflect in the price, if a dealer did this to me the dealer would walk very funny with a tractor stuck up his ar$e. on another thought if it is a finance deal on tractor ,what have the finance company to say on matter as they have financed a second hand tractor, not new.

A few years back we bought an ex demo loader. We actually bought it before it did any demos. It was registered new to us. And did the demos on trade plates.

Truth be known the rep knew I was a fussy bugger and it didn’t actually do much in the way of demos at all and one demo was listed as us. All we did was drive it round there yard for 5 minutes???

It seems very simple not really that hard to understand @Gho has the log book, on the day he purchased the tractor the tractor was registered with the dvla in the dealers name it was not pre-registered. I have bought a few new tractor's including a ex demo with over 300hrs on clock when I purchased it it was allocated a reg I provided a cover note for that reg from my insurance and it was registered in my name

Just looked up my Digger V5, I am the first owner/keeper, it was delivered here direct from a loan thing they had going on with a training school, so despite it being first Reg to me on Jan 1st, it was 6 months old and 300 ish hours, and warranty started with me.

The op can be sure it will be devalued come trade in time due to another keeper, ok this V5 shows it as the dealer, the next V5 wont.

McHale dealer suggested to us that he'd bring a new Fusion for us to demo and after one day he will sell it to us as ex-demo. Pretty good deal, but ours was quite new so pointed him on to other farm that had need for new combi. Everyone was happy. ?‍♂️

Do many people look at v5s and how many previous owners a tractors had when buying one?

Just traded in a 04 tractor I bought in 2008 it had 5 previous owners. Just noticed when I handed v5 back to dealer. Wasn't really any problem so not sure why.

V5s are only proof of registered keeper and not proof of ownership aren’t they?

An extra 20% for demo! No they did not! Unless you mean 20% off the already discounted nett?

I can see it being irritating but most seem to be making a mountain out of a molehill.
