We have 4 options, Case or New Holland, and Active 8 vs CVX, or Dynamic Command vs Auto Command.
Mixed work, including small bit of loader work.
Which colour and which box please?
Thanks, any advice is,
Much appreciated.

If your doing precision work ie hedgecutting cvx. If your doing general farm work plus loader work active 8/dc.
Iv got a A8 its jobs are loader work that its fantastic at, drilling, grain leading, culitivating. Its the nicest loader tractor iv driven and very little power loss through the box

Very low parasitic losses through DC/A8 so makes it a brilliant road gearbox.

My choice for field work is AC although I haven't had a go of a DC yet, I can't see me changing my mind though.

Case Vs NH all comes down to dealer and what cab layout you like.

What would be best 'box for a 73 year old father. Looking to the future we will be swapping his TSa125 sle. I think the dynamic, active8 will be a bit easier for him to jump on a go. Jobs will be mounted sprayer, baling and trailer work.

Also would folk happily move from a 6 cylinder back to a 4? Guess the direct replacement would be a 4 CY but most of me says try to get the bigger 6 cylinder.

Sory for the hyjack op.

So you're obviously looking at the NH t6 or case equivalent. All t6 are the same physical size whether 4 or 6 pot so realistically how much power do you need and can you justify the extra cost of a higher power tractor if you don't need it.

Do you not already have a Maxxum 130CVX? For us its Case IH CVX, much prefer the layout of the Case compared to the NH and it's operation i.e. the propulsion joystick is far better than all the springing about of the NH.

Have tried the AD8 and it is a silky smooth transmission, its certainly as close to a vario as it can be without it being a vario. However once you've racked up a few thousand hours on a vario CVX there is no going back. Running 2 here now with over 7000hrs between them and they are an absolute joy.

For your 73yr old father I would say the Dynamic command is going to be better suited as you're still pressing buttons to change gear.

On paper there is very little between the biggest 4 pot and the only 6 cyl that they do. Depending on what you are doing you may find the 4 pot much more frugal. Have a friend who opted for the Maxxum 150 as they changed a 6cyl for it and he wishes he went with the 4 pot 145 as the majority of his work is on the flat and not really power hungry.

We’ve a T5 with dynamic command and T7 with autocommand. We had the dynamic first and it’s a great gearbox, as said very efficient on the road. 40k box does 28mph.

BUT... sorry to say the Autocommand wipes the floor with it. Infact had the T7 AC been here first the T5 would have been ordered with autocommand too.

Cvx unless you need a fast reverse!
Once the operator is calibrated to the cvx transmission, they really are nice to use! Sometimes need to recalibrate driver after a software update aswell tho! 😂
Thankfully that was more common in the early days.
Steep hill on roadwork does slow them down if loaded, but generally over a distance they soon catch-up, revs drop below 1800 and still do 50k on easier going. So good on fuel.
To be fair tho I have never driven an active8

Yes, we have but we're thinking of buying another tractor.
