I cant believe this actually happenedšŸ˜

Posting for people that are not on facebook so wouldnt know.
There is a video on facebook of a police vehical hitting a cow on purpose to take it down/kill it, but I'll let people decide if they want to try and find that themselves.

Link to TVP facebook page trying to justify the situation!

I'm no farmer but there has to have been a better way, chasing it for 7 hours then they ram it! I'm sure in much less than 7 hrs they could have got a group of nearby farmers together to sort itšŸ¤¬

From what I heard on the radio, it had gone beserk and was trying to charge a kid on a bicycle.
If thatā€™s the case, then fair play to the cops

I must admit, Iā€™ve never thought of driving my truck at a cowšŸ¤”
I did think about it once but fortunately didn't need to. Went looking for a very distressed calving heifer (shouldn't have been due for another 2 months) in long rushes on reclaimed opencast ground. My boss got out to look at her and she went for him, he tripped and she went right over him luckily missing with all four feet. If she'd kept up the attack, hitting her with the pickup would definitely have been an option.

I mean, I believe them when they say in their statement that the decision wasn't taken lightly, seven hours is a long time for one beast to be loose - so they must have believed that they had exhausted their options. I am, however surprised that only one person was charged at or injured, which leads me to think that the animal wasn't completely batshit - I have dealt with truly wild animals and in seven hours of being chased they would kill all around them. I'm going to take the approach that I don't know the full story here, but at the end of the day the Police are charged with protecting the public, so once the animal had injured a shopper, its time was short.

Having unfortunately had to euthanise cattle in the past, I can confirm it would take a bloody big gun and a bloody good shot to guarantee that the animal was immobilised, and not simply wound up.
They did a quick job on 100 horned bulls in a welfare case next door 15 years ago, Army turned up with land rovers and dropped the lot in minutes over 40acre šŸ‘šŸ»

We had a bullock get on an airfield a few years back, firearms chap shot it straight between the eyes from about 50 yards with ball bearing 12 bore - theyā€™re usually well trained.

No far from it, it was this time of year I think as they stank for a while before they were picked up
It's not really how far they are from a built up area, if they had a safe back drop to allow for stray bullets then shooting near a built up area shouldn't be a problem.

One of the problems with the demise of the locally based plod. He would have known nearby farmers to call out to help in this situation

Traffic cars from Newcastle were trying to control a heifer on the`69 one day.
With their blue lights & sirens going FFs

In the tweet in the OP it says farmer was on site but couldnā€™t do anything to stop the cow
