A really heavy clay field would clear them or we've a burn not far away and a pal has a gravel bed which on it that fairly shines them up IF someone forgot to oil the boards daaaa !,,,,!!!!

No 9 mould boards Pete, not quite the same 8's but a bit shorter I should think.

And I quite agree, the clays around here do not scour, mould board just leave sausages lying around and if it's real shitty clay then you will find that in a difficult time the skins are dumped in a pile in the bottom of a hedge for the hedge trimmer to find next year

It's weird isn't it? Our black/peat soil wouldn't shine up a plough at all and a lot of fenland operators have slats as they scour better. Soil varies so much.
Ours in England just sticks especially if the plough isn’t set right. In fact Kenya is just the same volcanic soil with no silica you can plough hundreds of acres and you will never shine the mouldboards we went to plastic liners on our Dowdeswells which helped a lot.

Black peaty stuff here sticks like sh!t to a blanket even if they're shiny already even trails on the skims and shins on the slatted plough.

Really badly pitted stuff will never shine right up I've seen vintage guys trying to restore boards and you can always see the black circles where the bottom of the pit is only a lot of actual ploughing will wear them off

Sand blast and flap disc first to get the worst away
