I like a smock as they make you look cool as fuk but i look rediculous in them i have a 42in chest a 36in waist and im 5,9 so just looks stupid if i get one big enough to go round my chest and shoulder its round about my ankles:cry:
Get your Mrs to take it up for you ?

I’m a month into my kaiwaka stormforce jacket and it’s fantastic. You can tell how durable it is just by looking at it. The zips and pockets are a lot beefier than the ridgeline. I’ve snagged it a few times on barb wire and no sign of being ripped at all. Ridgelines seem to be the thing all the social media people to wear as but for a proper hardy waterproof jacket for working they’re overrated. My ridgeline monsoon elite has been cast aside as a backup. After a proper shower it feels like you’re wearing a wet blanket. The fleeces are good though to be fair, I’ve got a couple and they’re warm.

Well...

I've just went and bought this :X3: I saw it last night, and I've looked on websites etc for info - 20,000mm waterproof compared to Ridgeline 10,000. Deerhunter stuff is usually very good...

Doesn't have a pouch front pocket, and only 2 hand pockets. Has 1 side zip for getting it on and vent zips under the armpits.

Let you know what I think when I get it

The Deerhunter smock came today!

I've worn it for about 10mins and had a good look over it.
All I can say is wow! I think it is an absolute bargain at £150
The quality is exceptional, better than any Ridgeline I e handled - it feels very robust, it is brilliantly thought out/designed (the hood, storm flaps, zip). I would really like it to have had a chest pocket or a front 'kangaroo pouch' as there's not much pocket space but the 2 hand pockets are good.

It is a fleece bonded material, the fleece is very soft to touch (almost like velvet) and the backing is very hard wearing feeling - there's no lining. The tags say it is Deer-Tex, so their version of Gore-Tex. The storm cuffs in the sleeves are a neoprene material and hug to your wrists, they go up the arm 4-5inches so water getting up the sleeve shouldn't be an issue.

The main chest zip is chunky plastic so will work in all weather/mud and won't rust and the poppers on the hood and storm flaps feel solid. The pocket, underarm and side zips are finer (metal) and storm-taped so should be fully waterproof. All seams are taped, too.

I bought Medium which was listed as for 38-39.5" chest which is what I am. Wearing a wooly jumper over a polo shirt for working today, with my usual zip up fleece under my other smock - the Deerhunter fits perfect, so sizings are good IMO.

Obviously I need to try it outside in bad weather (plenty of that currently!) but if you're looking at the Ridgelines at £120-£135, I think you're better spending the extra £20-£30 and getting this. It feels too good to work in!

Must be some money in sheep if these clobber is all being bought... us employed sorts have to make do with forces surplus....

The smock I binned cost £90. I had bought it 4yr previous.
That's not very expensive when you look at the use it got.

Used to buy a £25 padded wax jacket before lambing every year, and they were never waterproof. It'd be shagged long before I changed it.. I'm saving money by spending more

You hit the nail on the head, folk used to spend a months wages on a decent jacket or pair of boots but they lasted a lifetime. Now most stuff is designed to be shot at in six months. This waste of resources can’t go on, mind I would be buying wool or cotton gear over plastic

Loadsa money in other people's sheep. Besides, it's a business necessity for me.

If I don't post loads of photos on social media of me in a Ridgeline on a quad with a dog, how will everyone know I'm a shepherd? #SocialMediaSensation #Poseybarsteward #AllTheGearNoIdea

From a lifestyler shepherd to an internet fashion and lifestyle influencer in one fell swoop. I congratulate you. No doubt there is 5000 quids worth of our doors gear heading your way just to post on Instagram- not even Bear Grylls could boast of being in the thick of it 24/7 hands on farming for real. If you got some media coaching you could probably learn to talk the talk and old Henson would be looking for a new job. Better throw in some moderate drama too: don't sheep get TB? Fudge, ok, I know, tell them you are worried about folk stealing your sheep!

I've already had some (military) media training.

I'm building my Instagram following as we speak. Give me a follow @PretentiousstrokerOnAQuad

I have actually received a free gilet from Rappa, courtesy of the tens of thousands of £££ I've spent on fencing from them. If only Mitsubishi or Toyota would notice me and send a replacement for the knackered clapped out old L200 I'm currently driving.

No need to invent drama. Nearly had 700 lambs playing in the traffic on A46 2 days ago, courtesy of some tw*t who won't leash their dog(s).

Makes me want to apply for my fun licence again ???

Cripes, I dunno if youtube are going to demonitize your videos or not if you start shooting dogs. I just checked on instagram and the pretentiousstroker moniker is already gone.

Aim a bit higher with your truck- lifestyle influencer remember- only Henson would be seen dead in an L200, Play it right and Mercedes or Maserati could be interested in a sponsorship deal. You have to wear their hat at all times, bit like Formula 1. They are sending 6 models as well, haven't you got any lambing pens to arrange, give them something to do? Must be a touch nippy in those sheepskin underwear combos....

Picked this up from Sweden when I visited one time, its just brilliant, all you need is one or two thin layers on under for a good hill gather (my preference 2 Matalan sweatshirts), one ends up round the waist on the steep braes, but back on when the wind starts biting again!

Can't for the life, think how much it cost, its trawler wear, make on it Brigg by Grundens of Sweden

Great for working in the pens all day in the rain and doesn't have annoying things to catch on gates etc

I used to think I was doing good with wax jackets - almost completely cotton... but sadly when you're out in all weathers you need gear which stands upto the weather (and is comfortable). And in your, and my, part of the country we certainly get a lot of weather!

Whilst we are on the topic on smock tops. Iv got a feeling my kaiwaka will become to warm before long. (Wishful thinking). Does anyone know of a fleece type smock top. I have seen ridgeline one. Just wondering if there is anything else about. Want it really long to come right down over my waterproofs
