Sprayer filling area with mid tier

Has anyone completed such a project through mid-tier?

I.e.
RP24: Lined biobed plus pesticide loading and washdown area
Comined with
RP28: Roofing (sprayer washdown area, manure storage area, livestock gathering area, slurry stores, silage stores)

If so, has it been a success and how far did the grants go to covering it's costs? Any advice welcome!

Thanks

I asked our catchment sensitive farm officer about the above and was told it was not a priority for my area, more concerned about concreting yard to reduce run off!

Sorry I'm not much help, but you basically need to talk to your local catchment sensitive farming officer to see if they would support it, if not you won't be able to get funding. Have found they have paid for capital claims for concreting yard and new hard track within 6 weeks of submitting a claim though, which was good.

Thanks!

Have had CSF officer out. They suggested concreting yard as well as the sprayer fill area. Certainly going to go ahead with the concreting, seems to stack up financially. Was just hoping to hear from anyone who’s done a sprayer fill area to see if it stacks up. Glad they paid in 6 weeks ??

I had a successful application under Mid Tier for concreting all our yard and access track. Huge amount of work to prepare and agree with all the relevant people. Good level of support from CSF chap and I was happy with the application

Sat down and obtained 2 quotes for the work to be done in the following Summer. The grant would have paid for approx 25-30% of the job. I walked away from it...

Do you have a local water Utilities company with grant schems for such works?

You may well find them better than the Mid Tier offerings... I know of 2 spray setups installed using STW grants.

Interesting! I'm also looking at putting in for concrete yard renewal. I thought that it looked pretty good at £27.14/ sq m. The one quote i've had so far has come in at more than that but not by a great deal.

We're anglian water and don't believe that they offer anything.

I'm just in the process of building a new shed for sprayer filling and have got the stewardship grant. I plan to go and look at a few other sheds that neighbours have done but can anyone offer any tips for do's/dont's please. shed is 6m x 12m
Thanks

How does concreting a yard make any real difference to pollution caused by filling a sprayer on that yard?
If I fill the sprayer on gravel or soil and I splash a bit then surely it takes about 10 years to work its way down the profile into groundwater by which time it’s degraded and safe as in a biobed.
If I concrete the sprayer filling area then surely I need to provide a tank or something to collect any run off if there’s any point in concreting it all then I need a bio bed to process that run off.
Isn’t it all rather unnecessary? The amount I spill in the yard is negligible anyway. Most gets sprayed into the crop/ soil.
Really does make me wonder if a hell of a lot of money gets spent for very little gain.

I was quizzed on the "tank filling and chemical inclusion", and simply said I filled up in the field, away from the yard. I use an IBC to fill up which made her happy ;)

RP28 equals a new barn if you qualify.. and you can park your sprayer inside it

Take mid tier and send Anglian Water the bill for any cost overruns... they are a monopoly.. they owe you one😉

Floor bunded , piped to biobed . Nothing I would change. Storage not enough for you big boys but plenty for What I do.

Looks extremely smart you can be rightly proud of such a good setup 👍

Could you explain the design of your Biobed, I've never seen one with roof sheets over it, I presume it's some form of evaporation of the waste water.

I like that it's in plastic tubs mostly seem to be a lined hole in the ground.

Could I also ask what the tank on the frame is for ?

Rain water harvesting perhaps ?

Big tank at back looks like your big water tank.
