Steering for a CVX 230

Just buy manual guidance and once you have a straight line use your markers.

GPS doesn't make workmanship any better, all it does is steer.

But manual guidance does not give a straight line. I would say independently of the driver's skills, one can drive a single straigth path manually more accurately than using a guidance screen.

The auto-steer system allows the skilled person use his/her skills for the main task, not losing time to steer the tractor. Easier to follow the implement and do adjustments on time etc. etc.

It isn't only about the quality of the work but also driver stress and many other advantages. But no need to discuss this. We have two kind of opinions onboard, those who have not used auto-steer and those who have.

Some people can't drive a straight line and others can but still find it easier with a light bar system.

GPS is only as good as the operator. I use both and GPS is no substitute for good operating.
You only need to look on Facebook pages to see evidence of perfectly straight lines and badly set machines.

I'm not saying don't get GPS but if the OP is already a competent operator and happy with his results then I can only assume the neighbour also happy having seen his work previously so why spend a lump of money on something he doesn't need.

I'm all for technology, precision farming, GPS etc but spending circa 10k just for straight lines is to my mind a waste of money unless it's being combined with variable rate application etc.

At some point the GPS is gonna crap out anyway.
