Strange call about tractor survey

Just had a call from a surveying company about our tractor buying. Was offering a £20 voucher else I wouldn't have bothered. Asked which brands we had, then asked which we would consider next time, he reeled off a load of tractor manufacturers, I told him the ones I may be interested in, but then he said sorry we have enough information and put the phone down! I am guessing that I should have said JD or perhaps Deutz, maybe Fendt, but I did say OK to Massey and Valtra. Cynical side of me thinks a manufacturer will be using this to prove how popular they are. Learn't my lesson, the next phone call will get the same response as the Chinese lady who rings twice a week offering me a cheap 02 contract!

I had similar call the other week, same thing lost interest when I said I wasn’t considering a green coloured brand, this is despite the fact I have bought 2 brand new tractors in last 24 months. 🤯

I never answer the phone to unknown numbers thesedays. If they really want me they’ll leave a message

Maybe they were concerned you'd point out farming requires a far higher skill level than anyone conducting a telephone survey will ever need ?

I usually ask them if they listened at school and if they gained any qualifications? If they did, why are they stuck in a dead end job?

Then I suggest that, if they want a job in a call centre, why don’t they at least get a job answering the phone to people who actually want to speak to them, rather than cold calling people who almost certainly don’t want to speak to them.

And yes, I know…….. they probably put the phone down thinking I’m a bit of a stroker.

For surveys etc. if happen to get caught out and answer phone. Always ask for money/vouchers upfront/proforma etc. Most businesses nowadays do not allow any tolerance if not known to them so I extend the same courtesy too.

I answered one of them once, it was all loaded questions towards what a manufacturer was about to launch. Woman was a bit put off when she reeled off the gearbox options and I asked if there was a 'non of the above' option. Only answered it as the number looked similar to a haulier who was moving some wheat.
