Too late for winter wheat

Use a dual purpose variety. I move to something like KWS chilham from November onwards then if it turns wet it doesn’t matter…I have some that’s up and I’ll be drilling some next week. But as it’s feb now officially speaking it’s a spring wheat now for the agronomy

Drilled some Graham and Crusoe a few days ago, 30 acres of Graham to do Monday. Should be cheap to grow, yield similar to spring wheat, possibly more depending how it goes.

I've got some undressed Graham seed. Rec list states latest sowing date end Jan but I thought I'd take a punt.

Only 8ac and I know it's all down to temps but has anyone successfully drilled now?

In my experience it's never very successful. Someone once told me not to drill cereals 6 weeks either side of Xmas, now I don't necessarily agree with that if conditions are good in late Nov/Dec but must admit 6 weeks after Xmas have never been very good. I'm sure on better land in the drier East that its totally different though...

Will you get vernalisation in Costa del Surrey? I guess you will if the BBC long term forecast for a cold polar vortex in early March turns out to be true.... 🤷‍♂️ We have had a run of nice weather during our lambing window so we are overdue a shyt cold one! 🥶

Going to put some Skyfall in next week weather permitting, I have drilled it much later and its been fine, not to Autumn standards but as good if not better than Mulika
