I ve had lots of triplets and quads of my second crop mules.It goes against my intuation but would I be OK leaving them with the ewe?.Plan would be to give the ewes plenty of corn and get the lambs on to creep ASAP.

In my experience you can easily end up with four bad sheep by leaving them on and a ewe with mastitis.

The price bottle lambs are at the moment, I would cash them asap.
They do fine for a week or two but eventually one will miss out. Or the ewe will get mastitis.

Or set yourself up for rearing them well artificially. Even with costs where they are, I reckon there's at least £50/hd margin in them.

Never had any luck leaving triplets on a ewe, haven't got the time or patience for cades either. Get rid!

If there’s four take the smallest one or two off, triplets I normally leave on unless the ewe is in poorer condition or old. What’s the quality of your grass like?

Good grass and plenty of corn but I think given the few answers above I ll consider taking them off and leaving with twins

Normally leave triplets on here, but will give them best grass and creep too. Only leave on if she is milking well at the start and in good condition.

More mastitis, but easier to spot as feeding them, and normally have 3 good/ok lambs at the end of it. Check often and lift one of she is struggling.

Have been doing that the last 4 years and prefer it, but I'm crap at fostering and hate pets....

As for quads, haven’t reached that stage this year. Had 4 quads here at scanning. One died a fortnight before lambing. One had prolapse a week before & died. One went off the legs 4 days ago, had 2 live lambs a couple of days ago but had to destroy ewe yesterday and one still going about still to lamb.

Scanning mans call for quads is dig a hole. He’s not far wrong

Keep them on their own, feed them well, even twice a day if needed. Be prepared to take away any lamb starting to fall behind. Get the creep out early and it should work out ok. Have weaned one off the sets in the past at 5 weeks and brought them inside.

Been really lucky with my set of quads, saw them all born, otherwise would think she had nicked them. Decent sized lambs, which I tubed & they all sucked off her. After 6 hours she decided she only wanted two & set about the other two which I then lifted to cade pen.

My part time helper looked shocked when I said in 12 months time, thousand pounds worth of lamb there.

I’d be more surprised if all 4 lambs are still alive by next year than hoggs being £250

To be honest going by how our triplets have performed this year ill be suprised if there all alive by end of first week we have had some disasters with them this year

Agreed we've a quad in the individual pens at the moment. One of the lambs is wearing a skin with a hogg (success), and one bearly viable tiddler with her. She laid on the only decent one last night......plus she's got no milk coming through so she's going out field with the rest of the culls in a bit.
