Ultra shallow cultivation

I know it's not fashionable and it's cheap so its bound to be no good to many but what about a big old wide kkk spring tine and a set of rolls. From what I've seen a straw rake just seems a bit of a gimmick, a springtine would move more ground but can still work very shallow and would be a lot cheaper to buy and run.

That’s exactly what I do... works a treat (y)

Or just a Cambridge roller. It will crimp / press small seeds in and rain will do rest.
We rake with our grass Harrow with tines in backwards trailing then roll. But we rarely get time for all that palaver.

The only carrier I have used was nothing like the weight of a Cambridge roll or heavy press really? I agree with the idea that cultivating shallow post harvest is ok but is much much better if you can roll the field afterwards.

our carrier is a press rear roller, as heavy as any rolls I would think

without a front roller they are difficult to use shallow however and bounce at speed, the front roller controls that really well, we use it very lightl, discs only just scratching the surface aiming not to disturb any roots

not really what it was designed for I think but it works well, more than a rake but less than a shallow disc

I have only ever used one a long time ago now, it never struck me as being as heavy as a proper press and certainly the Simba gear we had monstered it, you probably have a newer or different version.

I think old ones used to use a cast ring rear roller, ours has a rear roller more like a DD press
