Value of Wheat Wholecrop 2023?

I've got a field of winter wheat that has unfortunately ended up with a lot of rye grass in, had Cougar in a pre em and Hatra post emergence which did get on top of it at the time, however, at a cost. Fast forward to this spring, a huge amount of ryegrass is coming back and I've decided its a battle i'm prepared to give up on as long as theres a decent margin to be made by whole cropping instead of taking the wheat through to combining. At least then I can get a really good summer catch crop in, compost on and then go in with a nice second wheat in the autumn. With that in mind what would be a realistic price £/ha be for whole crop wheat this year. (PS. in an area with a lot of AD plants as well as beef finishers and dairy)

I can’t see it selling. You want 3 tons to the acre I guess at £200 so £600 I don’t think anyone in their right mind would pay that and then risk your resistant ryegrass problem on their farm. Ad plant might pay a bit more than an average livestock farmer but still I think you’ll struggle

At least in Australia we sell a lot of cereal hay. Thus just work a standing silage crop price from the hay price. Mabye use a grass silage price as base. Then realistically you'll have to find a buyer and depending on the length of cart will influence the price I'd pay for it plus pit space.

At least £50/t fresh weight. The yield will depend on various factors including how late in the growth stages you dare leave it before getting the forager in. Don’t think about baling it as rats will destroy the wrap.

I would suggest £500/acre for a good crop would be pushing it unfortunately. I would do a deal with a neighbouring stock farm but this will depend on how much forage is about this year. You won't get the full blown grain + straw value.

You want it snipped off and put up a forager early. Let the ryegrass plants within it grow back for a few weeks in the stubble then nail them with roundup.
