A Chinook has a lift capacity of 10t, I am pretty sure it would fly out simples.
Two issues there - firstly the landing gear isn't designed to have high forces applied in that direction, so whilst the chopper might get off, it might not be possible to land safely again. Secondly, there is the risk that as it lifts, the wheels on one side unstick easier than the other with the consequence being that the chopper begins to roll which again puts stresses onto the landing gear that it's not designed for.

They just need to dig the wheels out and fly it out

They use Woodbury Common as well as its on a short yomp from Lympstone.

Many a time coming back across the Common after a few shandys in the college bar or doing a bit of off roading you would have to steer round a moving bush or 20!

Mate went up the back of of one of their land rovers one night with his Micra, when the man mountain got out of the passenger seat he got out of their asap! 🙈
I remember selling Seale Hayne rag mags in Exeter, on the way back we stopped at the Granada services for a coffee, and the two rather drunken young ladies on the next table took a shine to my mate. One ended up sitting on his knee running her fingers through his hair, and we both thought we were well away here. Eventually we asked what they were doing there and she said "Oh we're celebrating, our boyfriends are marines and we're meeting them here cause they've just come back from the Falkland Islands " We were out of there faster than you can say Jack Daniels. It's amazing how fast a Mini 850 can go when it has to.

I was reading the other day that one of Mr Putin's "Air force One" type command planes that would be used in a nuclear war, was parked up having some routine maintenance done, and it received a visit from the Russian caravan club who opened the hatch and legged it with some of the secret boxes. I think they said that nothing too vital had disappeared and the red button was safe. Coming soon to a car park near you, nuclear armed pikies

It is good training for the recovery engineers, so it serves some purpose and prevents them from getting rusty. One of uncle's bomb disposal problems was keeping the men busy. The RAF set up a nationwide organization just in time for the end of the Blitz, then the Luftwaffe moved east and very few bombs were dropped on the UK for months on end. The squads ended up practically fighting each other to deal with the few bombs and even poached on their neighbour's territory, as they were all highly trained and keen to get to work.
