Worth trying to salvage this?

Think I may have posted about this before, have an old kane low loader, from the 90s I think. Paid 1000£ for it 6 years ago. Only move my 6ton machine with it.

I've been debating if it's worth getting shot blasting and sprayed.

It's getting pretty rusty, lots of blistering on the bottom of the drawbar and all over really. Some of the crossmemebers are holed. I still consider it structurally sound but wouldn't put more than 8ton on it. Tired and brakes are excellent.

Need a fair bit of new metal work first, new headboard, new crossmemebers.

Would I need to replace u bolts on the springs as the are rusty?

Anyone know roughly price for shot blasting and spraying?

I'd be tempted to put it on FB for £8000, then go and buy another.
Or have an unfortunate fire where the trailer just couldn't be hitched up & moved quickly enough.

If you look up Snowall Engineering on You Tube, young Oliver has tackled one far worse.
I'd say its do-able but I make my living repairing rusty old shoite
Removing the wood from the floor & a proper shotblast will highlight all the weak points for the welder & make it easier for them to repair then a lick of paint once its all done & your trailer should last a while again.
Will all depend on the prices you get quoted.

Overall, a lot of that flaking paint doesn't look like it's that heavy of rust under it. Pressure wash it all and some will look worse but most will look better. What's happening to bottom of the main hitch beam? is that a flat welded unto the bottom that's rusted loose? If you're not going to rebuild and repaint, at least pressure wash and oil it.

A few nights with the welder would keep it useable for a while but if your paying a welder to repair it load another piece of equipment you don’t need on it and park near the road. Sooner or later it will get stolen and solve your problem. Oil the jack well so it doesn’t squeak and wake the neighbours.

For £1000 you got a bargain

Even if you spend 2-3 grand tidying it up it’s still a bargain
Owners had basically abandoned it, made them an offer and they accepted. I put down a new larch for which cost about 300.

Your right, just trying to work out if it's worth it. Would 2k cover blasting and painting?

what’s the point in selling it? It’s replacement won’t be cheap
10k. I’d consider selling it if I could get 3-4k and put 6k towards for a new unit.

Say it’s worth 3k-4k and you spend another 3-4k in it you have soon got 7-8k in an old trailer

That’s how my head works

Or you weld some members in and dog up with a brush spend less than a grand and have a cheap trailer

The cross members are holed in places along with some lighter tin work. The chassis is still okay but there chuncks of rust coming off which are quite thick.

Depends how bothered you are about paint finish? Could invest the money into crossmembers ect and paint it with a brush 😂

I could but the thought of cleaning it with the wire wheel is a bit depressing.

What would be best for cross members? I Don't suppose it's possible to buy proper ones like is fitted?

For the cross members I've tried the steel merchants and the only channel available the right depth is massively heavy.

I need something 180mm deep by 50 wide but that could be wider.

Obviously the originals were folded especially for the job.

Only thing can think of is two lengths of 90mm box or c section welded together?

Personally I’d stick it in a farm collective sale, you’ll easily every day of the week get 2k put a reserve on.. put a few K too it and get a tidier one, there’s plenty on Facebook for 5-6k+
