Cars overtaking while waiting to turn right

Rule 167:

"DO NOT overtake where you might come into conflict with other road users. For example

when a road user is indicating right, even if you believe the signal should have been cancelled. Do not take a risk; wait for the signal to be cancelled"

Although whether that counts as 'law', I don't know.
Putting your indicators on, does not give you right of way, whether it be traffic from in front or behind ,
In the case of turning right in the OP post, even if he was indicating as he said he was, he has to give way to passage of traffic from both directions

Seems like we are all seeing the same thing. Tank has a led warning becon in the middle at the top which i was told to keep on all the time. Just wonder sometimes if these Amber light flashing all the time only distract from indicators. Been in situations myself behind highway maintenence vehicles that were covered in warning lights and you would nearly miss the indicator when he put it on.

Big sight turning right would be good. Not so handy when you had to go all the way over the right hand lane to then come back across to your left to get in a gate on that side. Thats rant for another day 🤣

There's your problem, those stupid beacons flashing away annoy and confuse drivers behind you and you're right some of them are that bright they distract you from the indicators.
Don't need them unless you're on a dual carriageway do you?

Years ago I had a motorbike overtake a line of cars and me as I was trying to turn right into a narrow gate with a tractor and silage trailer. The bike hit the front tractor wheel and the rider carried on alone before landing in the ditch.
Witnesses told plod I was indicating and the bike decided to overtake at the last minute. The police said it wasn't my fault, the rider survived but broke some bone., Turns out he was on his way back from the bikes first service and was giving it its first thrashing.
Years later I believe he did get a payout from my bosses insurance even though it was his fault. :scratchhead:

Its not just tractors, my daughter was hit while turning right in her car, there were at least 3 cars behind her waiting as she waited forbtraffic to clear, then as she turned a car decided to overtake the lot and hit her car hard, luckily nobody was injured. Car was not a write off as it was nearly new but needed several thousand to correct .4 weeks later she picked up her car and a week later virtually the same thing happened, this time writing off the car.
She was lucky both times cars behind witnessed and stayed about to give statement.

Don't think so no. Will maybe run without the one on the back of the tank and see if it helps.

if your lights are anything like the one the other side of the firth nothing you can do they’re bright as bright can be. Just plenty of plonkers on the A9 just now. There’s a Malcolm NH runs up and down the road with a low loader with double lights right next to the indicators bloody dangerous where they are.

Not turning right at the time but just trundling along in traffic in a tractor a few years ago approaching some report traffic lights on what was the A49 South of Warwick when some blood doner decided he was overtaking the lot of us, at least 20 vehicles.
When he got about 4 cars in front of me he met the 44 tonner that had cleared the lights and was just starting to pick up speed. They stopped level with me and the Rover 814 was parked in the front of the artic, the rear parcel shelf was level with the windscreen of the lorry. It didn't take long for him to stop screaming.........

Neighbour was turning into a field with a bale trailer last week. The turn was left but he had to swing out to the right to get in while still indicating left. Some joker undertook him !
We have to turn off main road, yes we do have them with white lines in Devon, onto a side road between farms.

If they don't try to undertake you they decide to over take at speed on a busy 4 Crossway. Muppets

Good idea, its serving no purpose anyway, other than potentially dazzling people.
Its not just tractors that have problems when turning right into driveways. I've had people over take many times when turning into paddocks and farm drives, whilst driving a HGV
People just don't expect a vehicle to turn if there's no road junction, you have to assume someone will try it and drive accordingly.

I agree, I think too many flashing lights stops people noticing the indicators, like having trailers with an LED warning light on the back.

I can get nowhere on the farm without driving on the A36, overtaking in stupid places is a weekly occurrence. The usual spot is a right turn on the top of a hill. Where they overtake there is not enough visibility to see anything coming at speed from the other direction.

I’ve been hit twice over the years, taken to court by a bus company that thought their bus hitting the back of my tractor was my fault, they lost.

The other thing that happens here is people thinking that an indicator turning left is a signal to overtake. Even if something is coming from the other direction.

I agree with @kiwi pom, beacons don’t help. It’s a white noise of flashing amber that people ignore. I tend to only use them if there’s something thats awkward on the road, the plough for instance.
