He said 350 daN (decanewton) which is equivalent to 357kg. So something is incorrect as they looked bigger than 350kg straps
They quote the STF (standard tension force) as the capacity of the strap and they aren't the only ones who do this. The people who do this fundamentally don't understand the mechanics involved. Comes under the heading of a little bit of information is dangerous

Yes you may only be able to apply 350KG of tension to the strap with the ratchet but by doing this you create a taut system where by in order for the item you are securing to move its not 350KGs it has to overcome its the full capacity of the strap.

The 350kgs of tension you apply with the ratchet is a pre-load with the aim of preventing the strap ever going slack and then getting a shock load when the loading goes from loose too tight should your cargo move.

Quote - "With 1000's of trailers being booked in for their tilly trailer pass"

With the law of averages there is bound to be a few Tilly trailer pass customers on here? Perhaps they could share their positive or negative reviews/experience or concerns?

It's a very strange militant advertising approach they take, berate your target audience and still expect them to hand over hard earned.

Most of the younger generation wouldnt have a clue how to tightly rope a load on

The guys at the fert depo helped me rope on one time, and sadly I can't remember how the knot worked now, and I really must learn it again because it was tight as anything and far less hassle having a couple of ropes to lash a load down than half a dozen or more straps you probably need to be legal these days.

Im glad you think so too. As that strap at claimed limit could barely swing three me’s. And that would be very embarrassing if it let go at the slight tear when pulling it down.

rope on bagged fertiliser never comes loose when done properly in 30 years ive never lost a bag when roped and sheeted but with ratchet straps and sheet the ratchets are loose within a few miles as the load settles and this can carry on for 100's of miles . progress f**k
