2.8 litre Hilux auto or manual

14 plate, 3.0 d4 d ,euro 5 ,manual ,44k .
guy in village has one to sell
yes or no ,what issues have they
every one raves about toyota , he wants strong money for it ,but are they as good as every one reckons
Rust, check underneath they say as a rule they rust from the back forwards but check chassis especially body mounts, crossmembers and leaf spring mounts. Hopefully it's been treated to a coating of something underneath a few times. At that mileage nothing mechanical would bother me apart from being possibly due a cambelt because of age if it hasn't had one.

I'm guessing £16ish price wise on a private sale for an open back, nearer 17 for one with a back on it, wont be much wrong with it at that age & mileage, presumably had an easy life at that mileage, bit of surface corrosion on Chassis & brake pipes, brakes may need done, exhaust will be getting a bit blowy, check the clutch if its manual & has been towing, there was an option of a H/D clutch with that model when it came out, Only real issues they have is the DPF Injector which can lead to other issues, 3.0 D4D will be best of the bunch 2nd hand I'd say, they are commanding strong money as they have the low down torque for towing................if you are happy with the price then I'd go for it, there won't be many with that low mileage knocking about, if its been dealer serviced then should't be much of a gamble. White & Gold are the colours I'd be least likely to buy but that is a personal choice .

My understanding is that if you get it serviced at the official Toyota dealer then you should have a warranty until it's 10 years old.

I had an invincible x 2.8 auto for 3 weeks as a hire truck, I thought it was bloody awful, bugger all torque , ride as rough as. I couldn’t wait to give it back. Maybe there saving grace is hopefully they don’t go wrong
My thoughts exactly when demoed one. Thought Amarok in a different league. Good job we are all different.

I’ve got 2017 amarok, you can’t really compare the 2 vehicles, the amarok drives so much better.
Not gonna argue but if you think back a few years you're comparing 2 pickups probably 15k at least apart in price. It's only since the covid silliness and a few makes of pickup not being made anymore that hilux's have gone silly (and too expensive imho) in price. Lets be honest there was a point where a v6 amarok was nearly double the price of a full spec hilux.

Fair point. I bought mine at 2 years old, it was about £3k cheaper than a new ranger or a navara. I thought the amarok made more sense although it only had a year warranty left, nothing went wrong whilst it had warranty, it’s had an add blue injector and an oil level sensor in the last 6 months. I think I would still risk a secondhand amarok over a new Hilux, there’s a few of the last amaroks around for about £35k . Unless your doing lots of miles.

All the crew cabbers. Who needs a five seat work vehicle? I have never seen five farmers in a pick-up. Waste of money and no load space! Meh!
Discuss.

Ours is a five seater but it is so full of tools, even in the front passenger area and seat, that there is no room for anyone but the driver currently and even he is being squeezed a bit. The back tray is reserved for calf feed, straw bales and longer stuff.
It will be relieved of most of the tools by the end of this week hopefully, as all the building and yard maintenance and repairs are now mostly done for this year, one hopes.

Trouble is IMO it these so-called utility vehicles is that they are trying to be all things to all men and really don’t do anything well. Ok yours may be a rare exception in that the dry & secure space is filled with your more valuable items and the tub used for bigger stuff but this tub ‘aint worth much as it is not that big is it? 😜
Me, I’d have the seats out PDQ and some racks & shelving in their place. Fab, stuff accessible from both doors👍
Someone mentioned taking their famalam but ffs! Who’d want to ride up in a work wagon in anything other than overalls and I can smell the interior as I write…….Just not nice☹️

From what I read on this forum, no one is happy with their utility. All have major faults. Eg; “I want to change mine that I’ve had for two years for a different model which is two years old.” Ffs, what a waste of time & effort!
Sorry, I’ve had my utility for exactly thirty years now. It tows 3.5 tons, legally, when asked.
Last trip in anger was 500+ miles to collect a piece of machinery in Manchester. Select the correct trailer and go.
Most ‘work’ today is done in a ‘wagon’ with no seats (except the drivers)😊and the utility waits its turn for longer trips. Otherwise my tractor & trailer does the rest of local hauling.

I’m very happy with my 4 door pickup. Does all I want. The only thing I would rather have is the L322 TD V8 Range Rover but as there getting on a bit now I’m prob best off sticking with the pickup.
