So what's your skill set that demands best part of £40 HR ?
Basic hard work. Have all my owm tools, (drills, mitre saws, levels. Mowers, hedge trimmers and ladders oh and a trailer and waste carrier licence. I don’t demand either. I give excellent communication. I quote and stick to that quote. I turn up when I say I’ll turn up. I leave a clean area after every job. Today transformed a garden ready for estate agent photos (third this week ) I was there for 3 hours and easily added thousands to the price. There is a big world outside of farming. For that price I have to buy and run all my own tools, buy and run my own car, pay my mortgage, pay my insurance. Save for growth and investment . Save and hope I don’t get injured.

Or about doing something you enjoy. I'd rather earn less sat in a tractor than raking leaves and pushing a lawnmower.

I suppose it takes all sorts, and things change. My daughter works at a country estate open garden, with large green houses etc. She sends me pictures of work etc .
Forgetting money, I am sure I would happily do her job rather than working with cows, tractors and tractor machinery… and then add in the responsibility 🤦… raking leaves and pushing a lawnmower sounds great👍

Mind you, she is smart enough not to want to change places with me 😂

In what way ? I know self employed mechanics using there own vans and tools on £25-30/hr and a self employed chap working for contractors who ten years ago was on £18/hr because there wasnt anything he couldnt do, hgv licence, vg welder, drive and maintain beet harvesters, combines, drills etc. Goodness knows what hes earning now 🤷‍♂️
