Ahh.This is him , what a jokerSheep farmers 'can rear beef' in no-deal Brexit – Eustice - Farmers Weekly
Defra secretary George Eustice is under fire after suggesting UK sheep and dairy producers could easily adapt to a no-deal Brexit. Mr Eustice madewww.fwi.co.uk
I think he’s taking the pee .Personally get yourself another advisor asap!!
Having feet in both camps there is certainly a lot more profit in sheep than cattle.
Also untill you know what the tariffs might be in the event of a no deal brexit ( which may not even happen ) and how they affect the sheep price it would be utter stupidity to switch to beef from sheep untill that becomes clear!
Also what do you like working with?? if sheep are your real intrest and you hate working with cattle for example then moving to cattle is not a good idea regardless of the farm gate price!
I laughed but took his advice and went bought a herd of cows, cheers for the tip off Dodd. !Well, he advised me to do the same as you
I laughed and told him to feck off
I'd of said it was the other way round.cattle are twice the work of sheep. that's the way I find it.Sheep are twice the work compared to cattle. But cattle take twice the investment to achieve the same output.
At the end of the day, a herd of cows with calves or a shed-full of feeding cattle have historically had a far higher sale value than a flock of normal commercial sheep.
My advice to any one switching from sheep to beef is to do it gradually to start with - and then speed up or retract.
Some of you need too chill out... after the first half dozen comments I’d managed to work out the pee take! And I’m a simple sheep farmer!

And if you've not had any experience of cattle before.you could be in for a steep learning curve.
I find the cattle less work than sheep. Once they are housed I can do pretty much everything sat on my arse in the merlo. We’ve got 2 basic but useful static handling systems so the 2 of us soon rattle a lot of cattle through it.For a good part of the winter, cattle(particularly if housed) can be more work. But from turnout to housing, cattle don't normally get stuck on their backs, they don't normally get strucken, they aren't to clip, and a herd of cattle can be a definite deterrent to tourists.
But nowadays, when most of us don't have the luxury of employing slave labour, we have do do our own herding - so our preference ( cattle v sheep?) is the most important consideration.
Breed less important than EBVsWhat breed would you suggest?
PR stand for Pure Rubbish?he went into PR
I can sell you some herefords. Just about to load them on a lorry to go home sure the haulier won't mind a detour!Still no breeds mentioned. If this was sheep there’d be 15 by now, and half of them would be Lleyn...
