Climate change is here.

I can’t take the “threat” climate change poses seriously when it it being touted almost exclusively by sanctimonious celebrities and communists.

Apart from anything else, if it is going on, which on balance it probably is, there is nothing I can do which will make an appreciable difference.

As you were.

I always think instead of global warming, if the globe was cooling instead, scientists would still be blaming agriculture and fossil fuels.

Not ignoring climate change or disputing the science, but I think it's largely an agenda to create jobs and boost the economy

I took a screen shot from a weekly video by Joe barstewardi,Weatherbell last week.

It shows how the extreme weather in the states this summer is not unique and was similar in the 1930’s.

Back in the 1970s, all the data showed we were heading for another ice age. Today all the data shows we are going to cook. That TV scientist Brian Cox was pontificating about rising temperatures a while back, showing a graph starting from the late 70s. Had it started from the 50s it would have looked very different.
You can prove what you like with data.

That's a myth. There were more scientific papers concerning the global warming effect of carbon dioxide than the cooling effect of airborne pollution, even back in the 70s.

The media, however, liked the global cooling storey more due to a few cold winters.

It didn’t seem like a myth at the time, as you say, plenty of stories in the media of the coming ice age, I can’t recall any about global warming, which seems to have been changed to climate change, a cynical person could be forgiven for thinking they’re covering their asses.

There is over 120 years of data on that map - what do you call long term ?
You're thinking in a human timescale, in which 120 years is a long time... at the least think in millennia - we as a species are only an ice-age or two old, and our lifespans don't even register in geological time. (y)

All I want to know is why is it always wet and windy during August ?
Derr!!! Because you live in Pembrokeshire... (y)

...You can prove what you like with data.
Only if the data is accurate, factual and relevant, otherwise you won't be 'proving', just arguing. (y)

I think the climate is warming a bit. I don't see why it needs to catastrophic.
If it were to stay at the level of 'a bit', no catastrophe, but... if it then changes 'a bit more', and then more again still, we find we have both a cumulative rise and that we're in a feedback loop as the increase causes change that leads to more increase etc. Still not a catastrophe for most of us because our lives are short and not a huge deal will alter during them. Start looking beyond our brief envelope of existence and it looks a fair bit bleaker.

Of course it all depends on where you are too; the Netherlands, Bangladesh and others will be more or less gone in a life or two from now if things carry on as is. Somewhere like Zambia or Switzerland won't see change beyond that of weather patterns.

And what are we going to do about it, ban aviation, ban single use plastic, stop shipping useless tat from china, ration fuel use? We will do nothing as no one is prepared to do without and it would be political suicide for politicians to enforce the necessary measures.

Adapt to it it's all we can do. The climate continuously changes and has done for millions of years.

The feedback loop and hockey stick graphs were debunked ages ago

This graph by Judith Curry sums up where I think we are marked with an asterisk.

We're recovering from the Little Ice Age , but our Modern warm period won't be as warm as the Medieval Warm period that came before the LIA.Its very possible that we have already peaked in 2016 , so all we can do is ride the roller coaster down to the next glacial maximum.

Holland is inhabitable.
The polders are enabled by man made intervention. But they are not all of Holland and the natural geography there was very favorable to their construction. The length of dam needed is not actually that great. Still a great human achievement though.
Bangladesh is very different. The water level comes from the sky during the monsoons and the people concentrate on the small high areas. The monsoons are getting greater and the high spots are getting lower as they erode down.

Thinking about how the world will handle the migration is probably a more worthwhile use of government resources than farting about in Glasgow. I’m pretty sure Putin would take them to help colonize the Far East which has always been a goal of his if it was a coordinated international effort.

But migration twas ever thus. Putin isn't going to be around for ever.
