Because the Police have been doing a good job.
I dont agree, I think they have an almost impossible job currently when you have 2 sides that are hellbent on having a good punch up, which is in effect what is currently happening. It's nothing to do with BL rights whatever it is, just an excuse to go out and be a thug for the day. The press dont help either, portraying things in their favor.
London is a shithole and it wont be getting any better anytime soon.

The thing is, you charge in with batons and rubber bullets you escalate the situation, Horses might clear the area quickly but they'll be back as soon as the mounted police return to the lines.

The US went hard and fast with it's police response, water cannons, tear gas, flashbangs etc.. and it's turned into a literal street war in some spots.

I think the Met are on the right path with kettling, letting them stand there for a few hours as long as it isn't totally aggressive apart from the occassional bottle thrown etc.. they'll be passive and let it fizzle out - there's a reason why the protests here didn't turn into full blown riots and buildings being burnt down.
The whole right to bear arms has always been a problem in the US from gang violence to mass shootings at schools, if a majority of households in the Uk had a firearm and a fully automatic one at that then the situation here would be very different!!!

Why not just arm every school child with rapid fire semi automatic rifles? So then if some weirdo loony rocks up at the school with a machine gun then all the kiddies can just put aside their Play Doh and swing around in unison with their Kalashnikovs and unload a few magazines of dum dums into the barsteward.

I hasten to add that this is not yet the policy of Denbighshire County Council’s Department of Education; but rather the sort of proposal that a National Rifle Association might put forward in an effort to gain support for their Vote Trump candidate to wrest control of the Vale of Clwyd constituency from the incumbent Tory.
