Covid and milking

Location

It would seem that one local bellend has screwed a lot of us over by getting tested on a Friday and going to the pub on Saturday to then receive a positive result on the Monday.

This has created a bit of a chain reaction meaning two of my staff members needing to be tested. One who only does one milking has gone clear so that’s easy.
The second is one of my calf rearers which does pose an issue as we can’t really do without her. In the interim of awaiting results we’ve set out some basic rules ie mask, gloves and unless an emergency no contact with anyone else.
Any other suggestions? In the event she is positive where do we go from there? Can she still work under the same restrictions or will she be forced to stay at home?

She definitely won't be able to come to work if she tests positive.

without sounding like too much of a twit, surely at your age you could run the show single handed for a couple of months ?

Why are people getting tested? Unless you’re dying don’t bother.
In fact, even if you are there is no point - it’s not like they test you and then give you the medicine.
Surely people get tested to know if they have it and need to isolate or not?
Alternatives are to isolate just in case , or close your eyes and carry on and put others at risk.
If you beleive we should just let it rip with survival of the fittest then testing has no point.

Be careful calling anyone a bellend, a similar situation occurred local to me. Guy was showing no symptoms and routinely tested as part of his job on a Friday, pub over the weekend, result on Monday was positive, not exactly his fault. The pub tore into him on Facebook before knowing the facts and then looked a bit silly when the full story came out.

how old are you ? what BMI are you ? how fit are you ? what race are you ? are you diabetic?

anyone you care about fit into any higher risk category?

might have some bad news !

43, 22.6, above average, white, no.

As for the people I care about in the high risk category - I’ll just speak to them on the phone.

I‘ll take my chances... as everyone should.

Team of 7 here. Job to know how to contingency plan realistically for this. Trying not to take unnecessary risks but head mostly in the sand. Back up plan is what @BELOWAVERAGE said but it would have been easier in April coming into summer than now getting into winter routine.

They can isolate. The rest of us can become immune and the risk will decrease for everyone.
You really have thee most appropriate name on this forum,

I suppose you are referring to “herd immunity”
the word “herd” is a closed group of animals,
We as farmers can easily have a closed herd, with no outside influence and if we get a disease outbreak , certainly we will receive herd immunity in a short period of time .

This is impossible to do in the human race,
We fly every where, get food/ material equipment from every where.
this is why the Flu has never been beaten!!

I have a beautiful daughter with 1 1/2 lungs and three major heart surgeries ,
My wife is on serious arthritis meds, And very vulnerable
Both parents over 70.
And my gran is 95
I’m very fond of them ALL.

yes they will all succumb to something someday , but if that can be delayed by having a simple test to know who may be infected, and thus be able to stay away from them I don’t see how that is a big problem .

You may be privileged to have perfect health and feel wonderful but you never know what happens tomorrow !

As I have already said.... There is nothing stopping you, or any of your loved ones from isolating until the rest of us have got on with our lives for long enough to reduce the risk of the virus for everyone.
