Yes feeding yeast, not weighing they are going at 13 months average weight 240 kg . They should be doing a lot better as they are good weaned calves when they come , think maybe we should have stopped with beet when the beans finished ?there seams to be a couple in every group going down hill every week since we swapped.
Not lame as such few struggling walk on either front or back , but not blown feet

Yes on ad lib . Vet in morning and will speak to calf supplier. Cant help thinking it’s the diet

Its your diet for sure.

Yeast is a complete waste of time.

You need to feed Bicarb asap instead.

Beans = protein.

Beet = energy

What is the idea of feeding beet to replace the beans?

Cant see what it has to do with the calf rearer.

I was advised use beet with the beans , as a sweetener as beans can be bitter ? Finished the beans a month ago and moved on to a protein blend . But still feeding the beet to use it up , yes they dig the beet out .
Is chopped straw in the diet really not worth it ? They do clear it up

Some are over feeding in beet and getting acidosis I have seen the same on spuds. I would cut the beet out straight away .I have never seen the need to include chopped straw .they will eat what they need from the racks

Definitley the diet they should be averaging over 400kg at 13 months fairly easily. Any silage available? How much crimp barley do you have left to use/available? If you're buying in as and when you need it and no silage is available id get them on adlib straw and 5-6kg of a 16% blend split between to feeds. Will hit 1kg per day on that if not more as an average, may be a bit more pricey though

Sorry they killing out at that weight , they been doing ok on beet beans and crimp it seams when I ve dropped the beans now ? I never thought the beet would mess them up . Anyone want buy 60 ton beet

We crimped barly for the first time this year Should if done it years ago fat cattle are finishing on it fine mixing it 1ton silage to 2ton of barly and havnt had to put the hoppers our yet they look a lot healthier than how they normally look on dry dusty barly

Put a bit of the mix out in fat lamb fields To grow them out they’ve done well and only need concentrate hoppers for the final bit of finish

Even fed it to sheep in troughs was a pain to bag but they love it

Best part is you can get another crop in and don’t have land doing nothing over winter
