Dipping after crovect

The active ingredient in the dip strips out as you put sheep through. If your not topping up properly it's quite possible you could be putting sheep through nothing more than dirty water. Very easy to think "we'll just get the last 50 dipped with what's in the tub".
Yes that’s the way I understand it they take out more chemical than mix

So whats available these days for plunge dipping , neighbour wants to use our mobile one , gold fleece op Around £270-330 / 5l , i see there is something called barrier d for organic systems

Barrier is just a stinky repellent stuff, which the manufacturers recommend doing every two weeks to maintain effectiveness (or they did anyway).🤐

An ex neighbours lad bought 50 lambs , all itching few weeks down the line , tried zermex still itchy , so wants to dip them now , Agree with above dip is def not so effective these days , we used to treat some ewes with a stirup pump held close to fleece (25 years ago pre pour -ons ) with full ppe at prob double strength , would last a good 6 -8 weeks , the last time we used it they were getting struck 3 weeks after treatment . concidering the cost rocketed then to double £75 to 150 we stopped , but now at double again and its less effective (for fly) ?

When they changed from the old dips the black dips Youngs Ectomort and Jason the dip never seemed to improve as far as fly cover Ectomort was the summer dip

I rememeber reading that there was something else farmers added at dipping to help stop getting lame sheep after dipping, anybody able too point me in right direction?
There used to be a bacteriastat in with the diazadip to stop bacteria build up in dip I think you put it in after use if I remember right
Now they say change the dip every day
I add purl or black disinfect at the start to help stop it

How many sheep does that do? I can only just remember the last time we dipped here, lots of scab in the area though so may have to rethink. Will need a new set of pens though so it’s a last resort.

Depends on the size of tub how many you can do in a day and if your tub spills any
Up to 2000 if everything is going for you nearer 1000 if not

Home made 5000l ? water tank (about 6-7' square x 4ft high , 3" outlet can empty in 5 mins), with a purpose made open top cage we can drop 10 a time in with tractor loader , then lift to drain for few mins not fast but does the job and can be moved on a trailer , we did have a dipping service back in the 70-80s when it was compulsory, Came into its own for washing show sheep

So £150 worth of product should dip 500 sheep comfortably plus labour. Fingers crossed the scab dies down but I know the vet was saying they’ve got 3 pockets of it within the practise catchment so would seem unlikely with all the sheep that move around.

For blowfly we use Clik on the long keep lambs and crovect on anything that’s going sooner and there’s never anything struck other than an odd ewe pre shearing.

I’m not sure if it’s 2x 5l that does 2000?
We buy it in 2 x 5l packs still not dear really

I reckon the smell of black disinfectant keeps the bugs off anyway. When the dipping licences and disposal licences came into being, one bloke near us went to dipping with jeyes fluid( old formula). Never ever saw scab, lice, ticks or maggots. As healthy a sheep as you could find

I can’t remember what the reason was exactly for us started this maybe it was to make the new dip like the old better stuff

Nobody ever actually saw any sheep with scab back then,it was just a job that got done. It will flare up now anywhere so if it might help we throw a jug full in the tub
I think it’s the overlap time where dipped sheep have cover that’s reduced with the new stuff
As long as you dipped your sheep when the old stuff was on the go there was no scab as you say

Boy that does the dipping here puts blacks in to keep the feet right, says it’ll sort any blindness starting in them too. What does the purl do other than colour them?
