Unfortunately all to often there is a knee jerk reaction by politicians when tragedies like this happen, there is no way any amount of new gun laws will ever stop someone who goes over the edge as has been said & as we saw in London this guy could just as easily have killed with knives, a car or any amount of other means, politicians would do far better to concentrate any new legislation on the dark side of the internet & hold those people responsible!
The point is where do you stop, after Dunblane our pistol shooters have to go abroad to train for Olympic competitions, is the EU countries any less safe than ours, villains & terrorists will always have access to handguns, do you ban knives after London or cars when an idiot drives into people deliberately.Ah yes. So that knee jerk reaction to ban handguns after Dunblane didn't help?
From what I have seen on the local news the evidence was there that this guy was not too mentally stable, posts on Youtube etc. No amount of tightening gun laws will stop these horrific incidents if the authorities ignore such things.
As to pump action shotgun, I thought after one of the past incidents that any semi automatic shotgun ( including pump action) could legally only hold three rounds. Perhaps, even if he was a firearms holder, he held this gun illegally and it could hold more than three rounds.
The laws are fine it's the implementation that can sometimes fail.
AFAIK we dont know why this happened but if he didn't have a gun he could very easily used a knife.
I heard an account that the perpetrator used a pump action shotgun.
Why on earth do we need pump action shotguns in the uk?
While I dont dismiss your point IIRC the terrorist was disarmed in a public place by the police/ public very different to someone kicking the door in and catching people unaware. As has been seen in recent terrorist attacks, a man with a knife can be tackled and disarmed. Who's going to take on a man with a shotgun?
There's also the "disconnected" factor to consider. A mentally disturbed person can shoot and kill from a few feet away whereas they may not have it within themselves to kill at very close quarters

No, I don't think it did.Ah yes. So that knee jerk reaction to ban handguns after Dunblane didn't help?
It doesn't matter whether the action pumps with an intimidatory click or its a semi auto or a side by side. Its more down to if it hits you or notI heard an account that the perpetrator used a pump action shotgun.
