Does Barnier really represent what national governments want out of a leaving deal or are some of them cursing him?

The problem is that the EU is rapidly becoming a rowing boat with paddles going in all directions. You can't negotiate with folk like that no matter what anyone says.

Actually it seems to be just the opposite from reports in the French press. They suggest that EU negotiating is now going much more smoothly than previously. Can't think why!

That's not the point I was making, the germans are saying come to us, we will give you what you want so you dont go to a cheaper eastern eu country.

Tesla is already in Berlin. Building their biggest and most advanced technology plant to date. Merkel simply saying to Elon Musk, if you hit any problems along the way, just send me a text. Sorted!

Tesla is hardly going to build a car plant in a country without any obvious market. :scratchhead:

Indeed why would you locate a factory a few miles from a market of 350 million affluent people with a singel no border market and then face a 10% tariff to access that market. How odd. Anyway Professor Minford - the Leave economics guru - always said that closing / losing the UK car manufacturing base was an inevitable and price wrth paying to leave the EU. I presume he knew what he was talking about. The folk living near Derby and the Toyota factory thought so.

Czechs are good engineers. The fact that under communism they built poor quality utility goods was not their style. Every other country in the Soviet socialist block did the same and China is following in their footsteps to a degree.

FFS it's not about building in the EU as opposed to the UK it's the germans giving Tesla anything they want so they go there rather than any other EU country, they are bending the rules but it doesnt look like the rest have the balls to complain about it, after all Germany are the paymasters, look st the difference with the Irish tax treatment of internet sellers etc, the eu doesnt like that one bit.
Then we have the EU now demanding we give them the veto over any subs/sweeteners we give to companies that want to set up here.

Minford's proposal was to get rid of the majority of what remained of UK manufacturing and Agriculture and turn the country into some sort of technology hub. And I notice that more recently he claims the Covid will have no real effect on the UK economy. Maybe he should get out of his ivory tower and have a look round a bit more often.

I've not noticed anyone complaining about the billions being pumped into the economy atm to support businesses.

Never be a better time to go WTO , everyones up sh!t creek
That doesn’t mean it’s a good idea though. ND will not happen, whilst the EU maybe prepped for it, we aren’t. Anyway Raab said today there are two issues left - fishing and something else (can’t remember the other) - sorry fishers but....

Provisions of state aid , which is absolutely nothing to do with the EU really .
