Fox trapping

I am (hopefully) renewing my licences now. What a bureaucratic nonsense it is, when I can pop up to Tescoes and buy a kitchen knife or mow down a group of pedestrians with the Land Rover at a bus stop on the way there! I just noticed the forms which were sent to me (and I have completed) are "Form 201-2017" while the ones down loaded from the internet are "Form 201-2021". They are slightly different, so I've started again (don't want to give them excuses). An improvement is referees no longer have to sign and plod will phone them. Last time my referee was actually in Norway on oil buiness and they did phone him there. But the air weapons renewal requires the "verifier" to sign despite it being co-terminus renewal with shotgun and rifle for which there will be a home visit and face-to-face interview. There's more but it is all a bit boring, like all form filling. Britain will soon be a huge weed infested wildlife park populated with vermin. This area used to be famous for it's grey partridges and brown hares. I haven't seen one of either for years.
it is now -concrete jungle

Last night, after going to bed at 10.15, at roughly 11 I heard a helicopter buzzing about for some time and thought it might be the police looking for someone lost. At about 11.10 there were bright flashing lights on my bedroom window so got up to go outside to see what was going on, then heard hammering on the door.

Opening up, was confronted by 4 armed police, in full black body armoured clothing , helmets, balaclavas, boots and all with police automatic rifles. Said they had a report of " an altercation on a local footpath when 3 shots were fired". but didn't know the time, or the extent of my land, and were checking on local firearms holders. I dont know who of my neighbours might have guns.

There is a footpath whish runs the length of the farm, passing through 7 fields.

I was asked repeatedly if I had fallen out with anybody, or had an altercation, which I had/have not. And had I been out that day to which I told them I had been in the house since dark. They were reluctant to accept my word, asking the same questions repeatedly. They asked to have a "look around", which I didn't accede to telling them that I lived alone and there certainly was no one else in the house. I didn't invite them in but they edged their way in little by little so that three entered the living room 3 doorways from the back door porch where they started.

They asked for my gun, ammunition and Firearms Certificate paperwork, all of which they took away, together with a broken and unusable old air rifle!!

After more than 1/2 hour they left, saying the local police would contact me.

A thoroughly unsettling and way over the top behavior by the police, appropriate for a suspected IS terrorist but not for an 82 year old without any suggestion of guilt. I have reported this to the local newspaper but cant find a means of registering a complaint against the North Wales Police at the moment.

That's cos we are not allowed to shoot back at the bad guys.... ;)

But seeing how the Americans behave, maybe it is no bad thinf that we are not all "packing"...

What is frightening is how short the US police training is and that includes the here is a gun, this is how it works, don’t shoot the wrong folk, bit.

There are more armed incidents than the general population realise I think.

Did they provide a proper receipt for the gun, ammunition and Firearms Certificate paperwork?

If not why not, would be my first question...

No receipt. No apology. No contact from 'local' police.

North Wales Daily Post been in touch for more details, and will contact NWP for comment before any publication.

I have lodged formal complaint with IPC, but that is referred on to NWP, so they will mark their own homework!

Have you spoken with, or heard from, any other firearm or shotgun holders local to you? Have they had the same experience, as it doesn't sound from your earlier post as if the Officers who attended had very much idea at all, of what was going on....

I got the impression ( tho nothing was said) that they were not going elsewhere and had just picked on me as being nearby. Its quite likely that there's no one else in the area with a licence, - wouldn't know.

They were either ignorant or uncommunicative on the incident, so I wondered what they thought they were looking for?

If they are anything like Police Scotland, they won't know what a receipt is or what it's for. After trying to explain to their 'acting inspector' that I needed a receipt and what it was for, I got one headed "Received from the Chief Constable...etc" with the explanation "It's the one we always use". It was clearly the form of receipt they use when paying off a grass/snout! At that point I gave up. I can cope with only so much stupidity.

The police do think they have the right to walk into private property. When they came here demanding to know why I was taking (perfectly legitimate`) photographs of my neighbour's breach of planning, they drove past the parking/turning space, past the house, and down into my yard to turn so they could point their head lights into my open shed. They were a bit taken aback when I asked to see the search warrant! On their next visit, they admitted that I had the perfect right to take photos (after all, that's how we gather evidence that they might be quite glad to have).

"The price of freedom is eternal vigilance". It is not a police state yet. The police might get a bit more respect if they accorded us a similar courtesy.

Three weeks gone by and absolutely no contact from 'local'police' as promised ( "local police would be in contact very soon" ) by Armed squad when they left.

Inspector from Headquarters been in touch regarding my Complaint to IOPC, who said he would chase up 'locals' and they were to contact me a week ago, but haven't

Public servants ???? more like the STAZI.
