I have found that with my Masters, someone on here mentioned it and it works for grain temp
Moisture content X2 +2-3 gets it about right, so
20% x2 =40 +2/3 gives you grain temp of 43, I find anything at 20 or over and I add 3 anything under just add 2.

Just note opico are American and work in Fahrenheit and half inch bolts. @MrNoo is talking in metric.

A set of imperial spanner’s would be a useful investment

At 40% you'd need an axe to cut it out of the trailer after ten minutes.

They said they were scraping it out of combine and pressure washing the combine all the time

Sounds like a bit of a science. Hopefully I get used to it handy enough

I went to Finland last year and they were telling me about 40% wheat!

I cut wheat in the past for crimping at 45% moisture. Was far too green for crimping never mind drying. Bubble up auger in tank used to run it to mush. Not good stuff on a combine.

I’ve just bought a used Opico 590 grain dryer. I’d never even looked at a dryer until last week. Maybe I’m mad but any body got any tips for a 40 year old grain drying virgin.

Hopefully you won't have the joy of drying at 24%, last time, in 2012, I used a tub dryer for wheat this wet it seemed like I was living in the barn for a fortnight!

I’m in Donegal Ireland. I’m thinking the call out fee could be more than my dryer is worth . I might hold you to the advice though.

Ha ha. If we waited here for it to be 15% we wouldn’t need a combine. 17-18 is normally best for winter barley. Spring could be up to 22. Same for wheat. Just finished winter barley on Sunday and spring barley is likely 4-5 weeks away yet.

If you ever run out of gas or have a problem with the drier empty it, don't leave damp grain in it overnight or you will burn the belt trying to get it out.

Only fit a genuine main drive belt, others work fine till you get a load of damp stuff.

You’d wonder if there is any difference in the genuine one or not though. My uncle used to work in a belt factory and they were making belts one time for bmw. He said the only difference was an embossed stamp was put on those belts. Same every other way. Maybe for this application though they are different.

Any tips for OSR? Just changed to a master and their computer settings look a bit hot for OSR.

That was the other thing. Probably twice the price. Although if they would be different I’d say worth the price extra for this application.

Maybe some are specialist. Have you tried the various belt suppliers in your area?
