The plough was undoubtedly the greatest invention by miles. Tamed the prairies and saved hours of hard labour, made it possible to actually grow crops in some places.
The ploughing of the prairies by the mole board plough didn't end well, an environment disaster of epic proportions.

The replacement of the horse by the tractor and the development of herbicides, saved both hours of drudgery and absolute blo*dy cruelty.

The plough made it possible to farm them to begin with. It's hardly the plough's fault that they tilled the land to death. It's been a success and used for hundreds of years.

Some sales reps don't know the back of a sheep from a baboons arse [emoji23]
Not many in ag like that now I would imagine - if ever there were. Read a lot about machinery reps on other threads but as has been said many many times before you don't hear the experiences from the other side. Even I get PM's where you don't even get to know the person's name asking for info and quotes. It's life and you'll find life is always a two way street

The question is good for the farmer or good for the consumer?
For farmers the worst thing is factory farming, crop and livestock breeding, fertiliser and chemicals as they have increased production massively. For the consumer they are the best.

Nobody has put monogerm sugar beet seed, possibly because there is nobody old enough to remember the hard work of gapping and singling beet. That's what made precision drills work.
I always remember seeing from the school bus there always seemed to be teams of people in the beet field armed with hoes.
Monogerm seed and precision drills gave a huge labour saving.

Okay, here’s just a few that are maybe front runners, very roughly order of invention:

The plough, corn drill, electricity, Ferguson tractor, the knotter, combine harvester, the milking machine, hydraulics, telescopic handlers, big bale wrapped silage, mobile phones.

Probably missed out a few other things, and others will have their own opinions..............?
