we have chicory and plantain, both keep down until the grass slows down, then they come into their own, plantain looks to have readily self seeded, chicory is hard to manage, the 2 and clover, have provided most of the sward, this back end.
first pic, plantain, on a very dry bank, that must have self seeded. The second, what occurs with to much chicory seed, in the mix.

Why do you think there is too much chicory in that mix?

just seems to have taken over, not to bad there, but elsewhere here, it's bolted, and left a good mess, cows don't like it after it's bolted, whereas plantain, they clear. the 2 and 3 pics, are before the dairy went in, the 4th, dry cows tidying up, or trying to. 5th plantain on a dry bank, the plantain looks as if it has self seeded there, def doing the job, grass has slowed right down.
The very top pic, is on a very very dry bank, second year ley, grass has virtually gone, clover and plantain/chicory, is showing exactly why we decided to grow them, l would add, the whole field isn't all like that !

Thanks everyone for the helpful comments. I think it is maybe worth a try though our cattle only grazing plan looks like a problem in a wet autumn. Time to speak to the Sinclair McGill seed supplier for the local recommendation 😀
