Still been 20+ at nights last week tho so pulling warm air through the fans isn’t gonna cool it very quick

ours has come down well from 32 a week ago to sub 20 today using nighttime air

ambient is 15.2deg right now

there is usually always cool air, tends to be at unsociable hours though so differential temp controllers pay dividends at this time of year

Used to have a pedestal each in 6 old 25t bins, and had a habit of popping to the bins on my return from the pub, and put them on through the night. Might have been cheaper to buy a fancy controller than going to the pub though... ;)

Same with the grain in a heap, but could use a time switch on these fans which was near enough for the business here then.

On floor heap here, with Polycool pedestals put in as I heap it, then one fan that I move around, running off an extension lead. I use a time switch sometimes, but usually trying to avoid damp air nights by the time we’ve finished harvest.
Keeps it fresh cheaply enough, and removes a % or two if necessary, given enough time and timely use.

I was forcefully told once that pedestals could not reduce MC... My experience over 20 odd years was that they could, but that person insisted I was wrong.,..

I've been told by supplier that they do reduce %. But have been told many a time (incld on here) that they dont

Well, all I can say, is that I have seen a near 2% drop in barley over an extended period. From higher MC was better, say 18ish%, so using the pedestal really for keeping the grain stable and seeing MC dropping as a bonus. Picking the right day is vital, or as Clive intimated use automatic controllers.

When I enquired the supplier about automated controls, they actually talked themselves out of it as they reckon is doesn't make a difference when you run the fans 🤷‍♂️
Which make no sense to me

All depends on the starting point of your grain moisture and the RH of the ambient air (and the air flow volume).

If you have 25% mc grain and dry air in July (and sufficient air flow), you will achieve some drying.

If you have damp air in January you will struggle to get grain from 16.5% to 14.5%
