Is an All Wheel vehicle suitable to tow a trailer with livestock in it? (Volvo XC90)

We can't get 40mpg from our current xc40. 🤣
Have to say our older xc60 was crap at towing, our twin axle caravan bossed it in windy conditions, swapped for a disco 5 which was a very capable tow machine.
It might just do the run down to the village and back daily? 40 isn’t too bad though and is about what I get running around locally in the Honda CR-V. A bit better even. Longer journeys and 44 to 45 is possible at normal speed. The XC90 was two to four MPG worse than the Honda with the Kia Sorento 2.2 in between.

As always the answer to the tow vehicle question is a Range Rover (the proper full fat version) or if the pennies won’t stretch that far a Ford Ranger 4 door pickup is a good alternative

How do you get on with the Honda?

I'm thinking of getting one

Honda is a superb quality, easy to drive and own vehicle. Top quality and reliability. Not the most luxurious or well equipped but durable and pleasant. Not the quietest either, with German-like tyre noise. Very roomy. The manual or the 9 speed automatic are the ones I’d choose because I don’t particularly like the CVT transmissions fitted to the latest hybrid petrol ones available. They sell like hot cakes in the USA but have never been massive sellers in Europe for some unfathomable reason. My 2015 twin turbo diesel 9 speed auto is a keeper. Much better quality the the Nissan, although that is a very comfortable and refined car as well. It just doesn’t feel as good a quality vehicle as the Honda and is smaller.

A real shame they stopped manufacturing diesel engines, yet other brands still are.

The problem is that they shut the factory at Swindon, the only one where Honda made diesel engines worldwide I believe. They also needed to substantially re-engineer the engine for it to meet tier6, with Adblue and better fuel economy.
They should have done it though because Honda sales have dropped off a cliff in the UK and Europe since they stopped making the diesel CR-V and UK Civic. Their dealer near me used to churn Honda’s out as fast as they could get them but now sell about six MG cars for every Honda. They specifically took on MG as an extra franchise when they realised that Honda sales were evaporating.
