I reckon we could groW rice in the paddy fields of WalesDepends what the population want to eat. Meat, veg , seasonal fruit, bakery products, I’m sure we could. Exotic fruits, year round veg, rice etc, not a hope.
But dependency is hard to quantify in economic terms.Being as economics will always hold sway I believe Mr. Clarkson is wrong to state it in a black or white situation.......................yes, you could supply 80% of food but if I can supply it cheaper/better then I win.
UK is in a very high cost of production scenario which makes it tough to compete.

A cold winter will put massive demands onWe are and will be building new power stations. Remember none were built for decades. It is taking time to build that pool of expertise to build them. Sizewell C next.
