Is this the last straw for pigs?

Yea , bloody awfull situation , the government should be working for uk farmers not against them
Too right. In this pig crisis the government have been totally unhelpful beyond weasel words.
From the Home Office being almost obstructive in getting much needed skilled foreign butchers into abattoirs to there being absolutely no border controls for imports and unlikely ever to be, leaving the doors wide open for the ingress of African Swine Fever, which is now on the Franco-German border.
You would almost think that we aren't wanted.....

the only decent help with an MP, then the silly sod went looking at dominated dominators
vast majority of MP's, haven't got a clue about farming, except from those whom they deem 'important' in politics. That is not farmers, its green zealots.

I'm not too sure what the NPA could do to stop consolidation in the supply chain. Please enlighten me @delilah.

There is an abattoir thread on here. It contains a number of suggestions on what should be done to reverse the decline in the number of abattoirs.
Can you show me anything from the NPA on this issue ? Because I have had a look at the briefings and press release sections of the website and I can find nothing.
But then, why would there be anything ? The NPA will operate to the same rules as the NFU: Say and do nothing that challenges the continued consolidation of the food chain.

That is why so many poultry farmers are re-stocking even thou if feed/ elec prices stay where they are they will lose a packet but if they mothball the sheds for a while the banks might start giving them hassle, no win situation!
Hate to say this but should they not have thought of that ?
all we have heard for years is its cheap money you can't go wrong, well it seems that it still has to be paid back and yes you can go wrong.
have you took advantage of all this cheap money @gone up the hill ? I haven't, just plod along while everyone else shows me how its done

l have no idea how the pig farmers are hanging on, probably by their finger nails, and it must be pretty awful, and they have my best wishes.
Just like chicken, they are totally reliant on grain price, plus they cannot turn the tap 'off', or 'on' in reaction to changing food prices, its like a conveyor belt, they keep coming.
In the drive for 'welfare', while welcome, it has meant our pig/chicken farmers, are competing against other countries that don't worry, nor do our major retailers, who pay lip service to welfare, while importing cheaply from abroad.
The only thing, that l can see, to ease the pain, is that pigs will become short, and those that can hang on, should reap the benefit of that, the old saying, copper or gold, is so very true.

£3/kg for boneless loin chops. They're British as well. I'm totally gobsmacked.
