What Winter Wheat varieties out there have people sown late, talking February into March.
Skyfall etc ?
Skyfall etc ?
I’ve known of extase sowing into feb, just wondered if there’s any others that will go later other than what they say on the tin.Basically Skyfall it will go safely till end of March IME.
Why risk it, Skyfall has the widest window, apart from yellow rust its a great variety, lovely to combine!I’ve known of extase sowing into feb, just wondered if there’s any others that will go later other than what they say on the tin.
Struggling to get hold of any seedWhy risk it, Skyfall has the widest window, apart from yellow rust its a great variety, lovely to combine!
Cranium? I’ve around 15 tonnes on trailer’s that I didn’t get dressed. Thinking of drilling a bit this week if it stays dry but just so we’ve got some seed for next year. Plenty of spring wheat in the shed to drill in the spring
would you say Late drilled winter wheat out performs spring wheat on heavy landCranium? I’ve around 15 tonnes on trailer’s that I didn’t get dressed. We would not be able to drill the heavy land now, the field I intend to drill is very light easy draining stuff. Heavy land drilled now or in the spring I expect to be shite unless conditions are perfectwould you say Late drilled winter wheat out performs spring wheat on heavy land
Not worth chasing at £180 a tonWe would not be able to drill the heavy land now, the field I intend to drill is very light easy draining stuff. Heavy land drilled now or in the spring I expect to be shite unless conditions are perfect
OSR ?How about if its £280 next November?
2 tonne would pay the billsHow about if its £280 next November?
I wouldn't consider sowing now , and if I did it sure as fuk wouldn't be dressedI start on KWS chilham this time of year. Get it dressed; try drill it now but if not just leave it until the spring and drill it then. Saves having a trailer load of bagged seed to keep the rats away from for a whole year #2019/20
Normally I’d agree about the dressing; but if you think about it, SPD dressings for damping off etc are intended to cover conditions precisely as we have at the moment. You could almost argue it’s the only time they are warranted (if the grain has been tested clear for bunt etc). But yes; I have some ex beet land that I might try to drill and that will be straight of the heap with some Kerrin I’ve got left (just because my Chilham is now tight with more than expected spring cropping)I wouldn't consider sowing now , and if I did it sure as fuk wouldn't be dressed
If you go on James Mortimer seeds website and click on there catalogue’23 there is a handy page with all varieties latest sowing dates.Wynnstay tell me Typhoon is good for Feb , I'm not so sure
