We've been selling oats to Jordans for about 20 years.

It sounds like Quaker are doing it to keep up ?

Jordans used to be Conservation Grade, then they switched to Leaf about 5 years ago (maybe longer ?)

We do it it because the extra premium on the oats is more than the cost to us of being in Leaf.

It is a faff, but I enjoy the challenge / battle !

As a traditional mixed farm with SSSI grassland and stewardship schemes, it works for us.

I believe that @PSQ used to grow for Quaker too.

Whilst I would be tempted to give Quaker the finger if they do no pay any kind of premium for the added value, the LEAF questionnaire does make you ask useful questions about how you farm. You can either try and use this tool to help your business, or not. I would say that LEAF can add more value than the cost, but I have not completed the full audit.

If I ever get a holiday again I be checking boxes again. A bit before lockdown we were in a Caribbean supermarket and spied that box with a picture of the guy wearing the kilt on the front. Thinking that the contents could have been from here and processed in Fife I picked up the box and read the small print. Produced and processed in North America!!

It's a marketing con and made me wonder whether the growers have to jump through the same hoops with the same costs we have to fill the same boxes?
