My last 10 months with British Friesians
on a constituent contract, ticks all the boxes, how much, if any, hol blood in them, pretty certain you are 'pure' fr, just wondered if there had been careful use of hol over the years, as many ped breeders of all types have used a little, there is little doubt about why the hol replaced the fr, and for those that stayed with fr, they had to compete against the hol, or fail. So if you kept 'pure', you have had 40 years of improving the fr, so i presume the modern fr, is different to the ones of 40 yrs ago, just as the hol is different to those of 40 yrs ago, everything evolves around it's 'function' in society. For us, something akin to the early hol x, would suit us.

4 percent Holstein in any one animal would be my maximum, our milk has gone for cheese as long as I can remember so protein has always been a priority

Sooooooo
We ordered some sexed semen from them in late January. We were informed it might not be available fair enough. We were asked to supply a substitute which we did. So last week we were informed that the original bull was not available and oh by the way neither is your substitute because we sold it to somebody else.

Suggestions on how I should approach the situation please.
Thank you for the "heads up" i will check this week with my customers that they will have the straws we need when we start serving .

100% holstein should average 7300 as heifers which is a bit low for us but solid more than make up for it

just shows how far the hols have moved away from 'white water', the breeders will produce what the market requires, they have a massive gene pool to select from, whereas other breeds, are not so lucky. It would have been interesting to see, what 40yrs of intensive selective breeding, for the fr, would have been the end result. Perhaps the 'sweet point' will be the fr breeding up, and the hol breeding down, is where they meet.

Trust me white water Holsteins are still going strong in some herds

Think I’d vote with my feet and place an order elsewhere, assuming other companies have stock available. Is anyone else encountering supply issues with pretty mundane stuff at the moment? Been quoted end of June delivery on two 11ft gates this week!

Did not EU breeding companies have a breeding strategy to sort that out?🤔
And was the North American problem with infertility and lameness an acceptable compromise with the holstein?
The number of Holstein herds that are cross breeding, or breeding back to the Friesian would suggest that the poor feet and infertility are not an acceptable compromise.
I believe some farmers have been sold up the swany by AI companies.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
