My Merlo has been pretty cheap to own, so far. However, I spoke to someone last Spring who had the same aged machine, and the same model, but had had nothing but trouble and some huge bills to sort it.

I think luck comes into it, and how they’re driven. None are particularly cheap to fix if torque converters or hydraulic systems play up.

Do you feel lucky?

Bit of a pointless question really. Everything breaks down at some point, you get good and bad machines in every colour.

However I will choose Manitou. Purely as it will be cheaper than the equivalent JCB, but parts still readily available.

Interested to know why on your polls you always feel the need to tag those who you want to reply to it, being a recently posted thread the majority of people who look in on the forum will see it in the next 24hrs or so without needing to be tagged. Also if your going to ask the question you need the full range of answers, you've missed out John Deere and CAT for starters.

Fairly sure some people actively won’t reply due to this, whereas they probably would have done if not tagged in this style.
Or are other people not as miserable as me?

All makes can be good or bad, if your really looking for a 100% reliable machine, go see the dealers workshop, if they don't break down they won't have one,
It's like with anything it's the dealer backup that counts, god I had some trouble lately,
So see what your dealer has to offer for service and backup, or what the dealers you deal with have for sale,
You may as well take to the wall as ask on here, as you will get so many different answers, none of it will make any sense to you, as each owner of one on here will say theirs is the best, this could be due to name of machine, dealer service and backup, and how good it has been,
And with any machine the driver plays a big part on how it lasts

Have you taken any land out of production from last autumn?
