Apparently Europe are banning creasote treated posts from next year. Will Uk still be able to get them? I asked my supplier about a month ago and he didn’t know anything about the ban in Europe
Banned in Ireland from, I think, November 2022. Suppliers/manufacturers have till April 2023 to sell existing stock.

Has anyone had much luck with dipping their half rounds in waste oil etc? Dry ours out in the shed for 6 months + first, and then stand in barrels for as many months as possible. Only been doing it three or four years, so don't know the results. One downside is they are hellish hard to hammer staples into when dried out.

NB
Posts could be breaking off at ground level at five or six year old here with our damp climate...
Waste oil isn't a preservative it's only a moisture barrier. So you can lock the moisture inside the timber and it'll rot from the inside out. Personally I wouldn't waste my time but if it works for you then crack on.

Ah FFS 💩

Another point scored for the evangelical environmental f**kwits who think they're saving the planet

Telegraph poles will be cheaper than metal pipes and braces I suppose.......

Best get the chainsaw out when the blackout power cuts start this winter 😉

I was told, in the UK, the derogation for creosote that runs out next year is only for fencing, not telegraph poles, so they are unaffected (in the UK)
So will we be able to buy fencing posts? Already got 2 packs sitting, and over the summer I have used 2 packs on replacing 8-10 year old posts, and I can see myself doing the same for a number of years to come

Nope

Metal is an (expensive) option, or maybe plastic?

Maybe it's all part of some vegan master plan to get rid of fences within the next decade?

New telegraph posts are available after October 2023 , but used are verboten in Europe apparently, though how you can tell the difference when they holding a fence up in the corner of a field is beyond me.
