Markie to Ireland? Get clear by Christmas!
That’s what I try to do every year. Sometimes just running over to new year. I don’t know what’s going to happen next year. All I can say is that there is no way they can get the quantity and quallity of potatoes from our area anywhere else as cheap. If there are restrictions they will find away round them. After all they are the Irish and resourceful with it. 😉 O and yes a couple more weeks and I’ll be done.

There was an item on this evenings news about this very subject . The Dublin chip shop owner was seriously concerned at the prospect of a disruption in the supply of english chipping potatoes. Over 80 000 + tons are imported every year and with native production of chipping spuds only amounting to roughly 10000 tons a serious defecit will arise if common sense doesent prevail .
The then asked the IFA potato commitee chair for his views and while he didnt wish to comnent on chip shop potato imports he was very worried about the supply of Scotch seed for next spring
Could be a few major headaches ahead .
Also my local chippie is payiing a hell of a lot more than 140 quid a ton for his markies as always the middlemen do the least and earn the most !!

Looked like they had par fried potatoes in plastic bags?
Possibly but the could be buying them ready peeled and sliced from one of the potato wholesalers . You cant beat seeing the 4 stone bags of best essex piper going in the back door at least thats what my local chipper was using the last time i checked . Ready sliced is the big no no you never know what you are getting might as well go to McDonalds for that .

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
