A farmer who I do a lot of work for is trying to speed up the time spent filling the twin tub feeder , feeding over 1000 head of stock every day, currently using a JCB 320 and a shear bucket, he’s think of going for a 414 and bigger grab but might not have enough height with it, how are people filling their feeders high speed.

All depends on your set up and what's in the mix I suppose?
Are you loading in the same spot from a commodity barn or parking the feeder in the silage clamps?
Ideal set up with a complicated mix would be everything in one spot including silage and have the mixer parked at the end at a lower level. A shovel with a bucket would soon load it then.

Depends a lot on how many ingredients you put in. I do a premix once a week of all the straights and tip this in a shed next to the silage pits. First load put premix and brewers grains in with bucket then swap to shear grab for forages. While first load is mixing cut rest of the days blocks down . Rest of the loads done with just the bucket which is 9ft wide on a JCB TM320S so you can around 1.5 tonne in each bucket full.

Would a big shear bucket not be handier?

Actually now that I think about it, it's worse than that.

it's a my mates knob is too big thread..

How you manage to feed 1000 cattle before you discover it takes too long. Don't understand.

900. Fine.

950. Still fine.

999. Hanging on.

1000. Oh the dinners ready.

Anyway, quickest way is a 360 with a 4 foot bucket in the pit.

Nobody said anything about being tidy.

Not being a cattle man. I'm just trying to picture what scale 1000 cows and the required sized pits look like.
