Ford engine! They are exporting it to the USA and fitting it to a few Ford F150 pickups now, god help them. How many RR owners here have seized up engines because of no lugs on crankshaft bearings

It is fitted to the vast majority of UK Range Rover Sport and a high proportion of full fat Vogue as well.More a discovery issue
I know very well to keep away from the Renault and Nissan Benzes, even though some of them are made here. Glc or Gle would be my choice, Glc is also made here.Mercedes are not what they used to be ,in bed with too many other manufacturers you think you have Just purchased a Mercedes and you have bought a Renault or even a Nissan ! And they don’t even build I’m in Germany much now , just across the border.
They have had terrible front tyre scuffing issues in the UK, as if they forgot to install a front diff. Mercedes say it is a 'characteristic' even though left hand drive versions do not apparently have the fault.I know very well to keep away from the Renault and Nissan Benzes, even though some of them are made here. Seriously eating my hat now , Mrs Chips came walking up the drive having left rrs on the drive due to it having conked making a funny noise . I started it and it was misfiring like mad . LR assist towed it away and it's currently having a new engine fittedWell my disco 3 is at 177k miles but has had the T/C refurbed at £400 and engine repair after cam chain tensioner failed £1500 . The later would not of happened had I serviced it at main stealers as there was an update on the tensioner that never got done .
I am also on my second 2nd hand RRS , neither of which have given any mechanical issues over 80k miles , previous to the RRS we had audi's 1st one needed a complete new gearbox at 8k just out of warranty, with no good will offered , managed to trade it in for another Audi, this one spat an injector out but luckily was within warranty , when warranty expired traded again for another Audi which had the engine rebuilt 3 times in 8 weeks as they couldn't get it right , the valves kept hitting the pistons !
So I think Land rover is just as reliable or unreliable as any premium car , the more complex something is the more it will go wrong . Plus the RRS was 1st for least depreciating car https://www.autocar.co.uk/slideshow/what-are-least-worst-depreciating-cars#10 which is probably the biggest cost to ownership . So while Land rovers are certainly not cheap cars to run there are no worse than others and easily one of the nicest to drive with the bonus of supporting British Manufacturing
I'm afraid they don't fit a brand new engine even if it was nearly new. The local estate agent's engine did the same in his six month old RRSport last year. He's on his fifth RRS and this is the first engine failure but everyone knows that it is quite common. What they gave him, and several others I know of, is a short motor, so a block, crank, pistons and oil pump. Every other part is transferred from the old block, including the twin turbos and heads. Another I know of had to be returned three times after the initial repair, due to various oil and fuel leaks and bits coming loose.Seriously eating my hat now , Mrs Chips came walking up the drive having left rrs on the drive due to it having conked making a funny noise . Age old issue of crank bearing rotating , thank the lord for warranty although the dealer said they would fix it even if outside of warranty .
On the bright side I will have a brand new engine in a car I bought 2nd hand and I just have to hope the dealer is right when they say they have never had this happen twice to the same vehicle !
Hadn't realised that , however when I last spoke to the dealer they were waiting for new turbo's , he did also refer to it as a new engine but I will have to wait and seeI'm afraid they don't fit a brand new engine even if it was nearly new. If your turbos were obviously knackered upon inspection, then they would change them. Otherwise not. The simple fact that they were waiting for turbo’s indicates that they had a short motor, not a complete engine.Hadn't realised that , however when I last spoke to the dealer they were waiting for new turbo's , he did also refer to it as a new engine but I will have to wait and see
Whatever you do, get it serviced by LR dealer. I believe that they will repair these engines way out of warranty and possibly up to their sixth birthday as long as you have a LR service history. Despite some people here being in denial when I first brought it to attention, a few years ago, it is now a well known and recognised issue with the 3.0 Ford V6 diesel, so they can no longer deny that it is a manufacturing fault. Will this be a problem likely to persist on the disco 5, just asking as my warranty runs out in the backend and wondering wether to extend it?
Also would you stick with main dealers or find an independent for such a complex vehicle?
They have just been on the phone now , it's a complete new engine from landrover , they just swap ancillary's over like manifold etc , turbos and intakes could be contaminated and so are all replaced as well . They claim they have never fitted a short engine for this issueIf your turbos were obviously knackered upon inspection, then they would change them. Otherwise not. Do you believe them? I could name the chap with the nearly new RRS that certainly didn't get new turbos or new heads. Everything was swapped over. They have just been on the phone now , it's a complete new engine from landrover , they just swap ancillary's over like manifold etc , turbos and intakes could be contaminated and so are all replaced as well . No reason to doubt him , I would think it unlikely he would lie when specifically asked . A good dealership that even replaced parts FOC after a tree jumped out in front of Mrs Chips when she was reversing ?Do you believe them? A main dealer once told me that their 'master technician' had tested my seat, which kept blowing a fuse, and that two out of three electric motors were burnt out and that they were non-serviceable and not available as individual parts. Very kindly offered me a discount on a new seat, for £1000+fitting. I said I'd think about it. Took it to me independent mechanic and he took an hour and a short piece of insulating tape to fix it permanently. No reason to doubt him , I would think it unlikely he would lie when specifically asked . I guess your guy was using a different dealer
That looks more like a cullinanJust seen this looks like a range Rover could not see any exhaust pipes ,looks like an electric one .also the rear suspension looked like it,was on hydraulic rams ,I was behind him and when He cornered quite hard you could see suspension quite well I don’t know if the new range rovers have got Hydraulic suspension . haven't had Range Rover for some years now .View attachment 892671View attachment 892672
