Father bought one of these years ago .. after many years and leaking "Scent" onto the floor it's made a mess but killed nothing.

Fen Traps work and are much much much cheaper.

There was a youtube video about someone who had issues on first using one, then he removed all traces of the proprietary attractant, made up his own concoction - and it worked far better, I am trying to find it again to see what he did...

I sometimes wonder if vermin become used to the scent of proprietary attractants hence thing seem to be ineffective?

I doubt it .. if you were to offer some wonger for it then he might bite .. otherwise it can remain on the wall of shame as a reminder not to purchase something that doesn't work.

So what is something that is stated as being no good and basically useless worth?
Hoarding items is often associated with attracting rats, so maybe better to pass it on 😜

When setting spring loaded traps I always use chocolate raisins, even in my electronic mouse trap, in the belief that Roland is intensely attracted to the aroma of chocolate but some airgunners use coffee grounds. Based on the afore mentioned I am wondering if using some of my daughters Angel perfume would act as an attractant for ratty to investigate the A24 ART?

Blended sweetcorn and salsa dip seems effective too.

I never bait Fenn traps. I that found you only attract blackbirds etc,
Put them along walls and places that rats naturally run and under a good cover to keep out cats etc. or think that they have found a cozy home. You will soon find the places that get results and nail them on the way in from the fields before they even get in.
The biggest downfall with the A24 is that you need to make it more attractive than other food sources, and that the gas runs out, seals fail etc.
Everything about Fenn traps is simpler.

what do you put the fenn traps in to prevent the wrong thing getting virtually sliced in half?

I mostly make covers out of 25mm weldmesh with the ends folded in to the correct size to prevent cats etc getting in. If you have a small dog about you will need to put something heavy on top or against it. Weldmesh makes them easy to inspect.
Put the entrance hole to one side of the end so that the rat can run along the wall and straight in, with out a corner to go around.
Use timber, bricks or what ever is around to block routes around your trap so that the rat gets funneled in.
I have some in an old ammunition box with holes cut in the ends.
Wheres the best place to buy Fenn traps atm ? Aamoi..
I bought the last lot from Solway feeders. Gamekeeper supplies, farm supply companies all do them.

Had good results with an old gin trap, plenty of peenut butter on it, got one again the other day. Also grey squarels, just rats with bushy tails, my brother in law trapped 5 with the pee nut butter trap.
