Rats Rats Rats Advice Please

Am not to bothered about mice cris its rats I am wairy of could do with something like your on about but for rats I have seen them on you tube dont know if we can get them over here think they was in America or somewhere will have a look .

You can get the larger ones that are suitable for rats but I have read that they may not be as effective as the electronic mouse traps; they are available on eBay. Probably worth trying one for assessment purposes.

Seriously accurate pest control!

Got guns Cris but problem is we have quite a few horses stabled and might spook them it's not like a big spread about farm .

I use a Gammo Coyote PCP air rifle for target shooting and all you hear is the sound of the hammer clicking down and the impact of the pellet on the target at 20 yards. An SMK XS78 CO2 rifle, with moderator fitted, is also almost silent.

I imagine, with horses, one should be more concerned about stray pellets but you could bait certain areas for safer lines of fire. That A24 automatic resetting trap looks like being a much safer bet though.

I use my. 22 around our stables and the nags are fine. You get the odd snort every now and then, but sub 12 ft lbs with moderator seems to work for us, and that was why I bought it really.
Didn't want random walking around pinging rounds out all over the show.

As an aside, and thinking a little out of the box; I wonder if the rats could be baited with food containing birth control materials. Maybe the combination of cats, efficient trapping, shooting, and reproduction control would totally eliminate your rat populations.

Just done a search for the A24 Automatic Rat Trap and the cheapest one I could find was £141 plus postage. The whole concept of the A24 looks to be pretty good but the price is rather prohibitive for our wee town house garden!

Anyone on TFF using the A24 ART?

It would be interesting to know if the people who state they are waste of time actually followed the instructions to the letter, or if they skipped those parts and just installed the unit.

Obviously we all know we cannot trust anything at face value these days, but that also goes for negative views without detailed history to state how and why things are of no use, as they have been around for a while now?

I must confess that I thought the A24 Automatic Rat Trap was a great, well thought out, concept for reducing rat populations but have been disappointed to read so many negative reports for the trap and keep wondering why that is.

Could it be that Ratty is just out-thinking folk and upon setting up a new trap a trail camera could be of assistance in discovering why Mr n Missy rat are just not taking the bait. Perhaps Ratty just doesn't like the colour scheme; what attracts the inquisitiveness of squirrels may put Ratty's suspicious nature into overdrive.

LincLass states that setting up two pieces of drain pipe and placing an A24 in a gap between the two pieces and covering the trap with something is effective but I don't know if the Lass is actually using an A24 on her property, or if it's just a suggestion.

Rats are extremely clever, and I would ponder that some folks would not like to admit they were being outsmarted.
There must be something to these devices if they are still selling at the money they are, so it maybe the application practices that could be yielding less favorable results - for example, a lot of food around, wrong height, wrong area?

Would be good if a supplier would donate a couple of units to get some real world unbiased reports (showing everything that was done etc), and how it worked out.
